Tianjin, one of the largest coastal cities in northern China, lies roughly 100 kilometres to
the southeast of Beijing. Tianjin is an old city with more than 1000 years’ history. The
name of Tianjin is very meaningful; tian refers to tianzi, which means emperor and jin
means ford. Tianjin therefore is “the ford of the emperor”.
There are lots of historical sites in Tianjin, such as the Dule Temple, which has more than
1000 years’ history. There are also lots of modern European-styled buildings here. You can
find houses in British, German, French, Russian and Greek styles. At the same time,
Tianjin is a modernized city with many contemporary architecture, such as the Tianjin
Olympic Center Stadium.
Tianjin is also renowned for her food. Many people who visit Tianjin are mainly attracted
by the city’s famous street snacks. Goubuli Steamed Stuffed Buns, Ear-Hole Fried Cakes
and 18th Street Fried Dough Twists are the best among them. Besides these three, there are
over 300 other different kinds of snacks. Go give them a try!
