Dear Mr. Walters:

We received on November 27,2017 your November 19, 2017 letter to our office requesting
that we begin Ouster proceedings against Crawford County Sheriff Dan Peak and Deputy Stuart
Hite. K.S.A. 60-1206(a) provides that the attorney general or any county attorney in the county of
his or her jurisdiction has the authority to investigate and commence ouster proceedings if
reasonable cause is found for the complaint.

Because the applicable law authorizes both the attorney general and a county attorney to
review ouster matters, and because you have raised concerns about local county government
officials and not state officials, we believe you should direct your concerns to the attention of
