Uses
 Remember to always date each entry, including the
time of day and setting if pertinent, select an
observable criterion, and write short, factual notes.

 Having the forms already made and available
around the room (on those clipboards mentioned
earlier) makes Class List Logs easy to use

 The individual’s information then may be copied
into the child’s file, appear as a summary in the
child’s file, or be referred to directly from the Class
File.

examine values, beliefs, and feelings also forms
memories.

 There are many well-known home visitation
programs that deliver parenting education and
seek to reduce child abuse.

 In either case, setting aside the time will result in
time well spent.

possible in any other form.
Reflection
 Having the date written is highly important as it
gives a precise date of when the observation
made and it was factual rather than an inference.
 Clipboards are really easy to carry as they don’t
way much and having pre-made sheets in hand
makes it easier to jot down notes.
 I liked how the book mentioned two different files
to keep in the classroom that is easy to access
from the teacher. Having one file for the specific
child and then one in general for the whole
classroom. If the teacher needs a particular
information from a specific student then she can
pull out that file.
 These Reflective Journals can be a personal way to
jot down any information that is on your mind.
This could be anything from beliefs and memories.
I think what makes it fun is that there is no
particular rule on how to do the journal.
 It is saddening to hear on the news when there
were cases of child abuse. I think having these
home visitations programs are great to keep the
child safe from any potential dangers they could
be facing at home.
 The most difficult part of these journals is finding
time. But as mentioned in the book, we have time
to send a text but not to do a reflective journal. I
personally prefer jotting down notes physically
than on my phone as it was way for me to escape
technology for a bit.
 I agree that it is a way to use this as an emotional
release because it should be personal. I would
make sure not anyone can get an ahold of it so
that I could truly reflect without being
embarrassed in a way.

 Child care centers invite the family to bring the
child to visit the center by appointment so they
receive individual attention.

 Each day every child should be greeted upon
arrival. The smile communicates acceptance and
friendship
 When dismissal time is the same for everyone,
some programs use closing circles, a hand squeeze,
or recall and review of the day as a way to signal the
transition from the program to home.

 It is the teacher’s job to set the tone for the day, to
have transition activities and routines to get the
children involved, and to welcome each child.

 The teacher communicates the desire to help the

 This is also a time for remembering (part of the
cognitive process), for expressing positive feelings
for one another (social and emotional
development), and for drawing, dictating, or
writing remembrances (literacy and art activities).

 When children with special needs are integrated
into a group, it is important to have knowledge and
information concerning the exceptionality and this
child’s situation before the first day they come to
school.
Diverse Cultures
 For the child who is a dual-language learner (DLL),
it is most helpful if the teacher learns a few of the
most important words such as greetings, routines
such as “Eat,” “Toilet,” “Clean up,” “Mother/father
returning soon,” and “I can help you.”
 Something similar to an orientation before the
actual class beings becomes more personal within
the teacher and the parent. This could the
parent’s opportunity to ask any questions to the
teacher and that others could hear as well. If any
further information is needed, then an
appointment could be made to meet on one on
one.
 I think it is important to implement a greeting and
a goodbye so that child has a sense that they were
acknowledge throughout the day. A simple smile
when they come and a song when it is time to
leave gives a closure to the day.
 Once a child is in Primary School, they have
reached the age where they can do daily activities
on their own. Setting the tone of joy makes the
child more eager to come to school and learn.
 It is a bittersweet moment for the parents when it
comes to the child entering school because they
are going to learn but also won’t be with them at
all time. Some children may cry the first day while
other will cry the following week.
 When it is time for the child to go onto the next
grade level, remembering the activates they did
throughout the year as a way to enhance their
development fundamentals. I remember in
kindergarten we would do open house to
showcase to our parents the activities we did.
 Although these children have special needs,
involving them in daily activities is important so
they do not feel excluded. Accommodating
activities to the child, makes them feel more
welcomed.
 For this reason, I am glad that I am bilingual in
Spanish and English. But if there was a child who
spoke another language, I would do my best to
learn certain words to help the child with his
needs.
