Project Summary
In March 2018, Enterprise Music Scotland will run Creative Exchange, providing Scottish based
chamber music ensembles with the opportunity to rehearse, relax, plan, create, research and access
central support from EMS all within the beautiful surroundings of Crear, rural Argyll.
The Creative Exchange will last up to 3 days and will involve approx. 2 ensembles, facilitating ensemble-
led development work; rehearsing as individual ensembles, exploring potential future collaborations and
offering an exchange of creative ideas.
As well as excellent rehearsal spaces, participating ensembles will be provided with accommodation
(comfy beds and beautiful views) and meals (tasty food and creative conversations).
At this stage, we ask you to formally express your interest by answering a few questions which will
help EMS to ascertain which ensembles will benefit most from participation. Please answer as fully as
possible to help us with this process.
We also ask that you attach a summary of your work to date as an ensemble, this may take the form
of a short biog or CV.

Accommodation
In this section we ask that you provide us with as much information as possible to help us
organise your accommodation at Crear.
1. 1) Please state whether you are happy to room-share (with one other member of
your ensemble) and any other relevant preferences. Please note that room-sharing will
enable more participants to benefit from the project.
Travel
The remote location of Crear means that transport must be taken into consideration by any
ensemble who wishes to take part. Travelling by car is necessary, and we encourage car-
sharing as much as is reasonably possible. EMS will contribute to travel expenses at a rate of
30p per mile.
1. 2) Do you have access to a car or will you need to organise car-sharing with
another participating ensemble? (please give details for travel arrangements for the
full group)
What would your ensemble most benefit from by taking part in the EMS: Creative
Exchange? What makes you an ideal candidate for the project? (Please limit your answer to
250 words)
Our ensemble the Escocia Duo is one of the few ensembles mixing plucked strings with
bowed strings, the repertoire for this ensemble is not huge and therefore having time to
concentrate on arranging and working on pieces written by contemporary composers (Eddie
McGuire, Javier Contreras and Javier Farias) would have a huge impact in our development
as an ensemble and us individually as musicians.
Our programmes relies heavily on arranging and commissioning new works, both tasks
which take a longer amount of time to develop and polish. Having time to delve into this task
would benefit our ensemble considerably and would help us create a bigger impact in the
music community as a guitar and violin duo.
We consider ourselves perfect candidates for this residency, because we are highly
motivated musicians that work well with others and enjoy contributing and socializing with
the community. We would be very grateful for such an opportunity where we would be able
demonstrate our enthusiasm for our craft whilst giving back to our community and
connecting to other musicians.
