THROTTLE PEDAL CALIBRATION PROCEDURE — VEHICLES

EQUIPPED WITH CUMMINS ENGINES
On vehicles equipped with a Cummins engine (beginning with software part No. 1MS341
and above), calibrating the throttle pedal is required if either a throttle pedal is replaced or
the vehicle electronic control unit (VECU) is reprogrammed. V-MAC® III Service Support
Software (Service Diagnostics, version 2.4 and above) is required to calibrate the throttle
pedal so that optimum travel and responsiveness is achieved. If the VECU is
reprogrammed, an active throttle pedal fault will occur. The pedal, however, can be
recalibrated from that point and will be saved to the VECU.

To calibrate the throttle pedal, proceed as follows:

1. Connect to the vehicle using V-MAC® III Service Support Software, version 2.4 or
above. With the ignition switch on, access Service Diagnostics from the main menu.
When the Service Diagnostics screen is displayed, click on the Diagnostics button to
access the Service Diagnostics menu.

This screen instructs to cycle the throttle pedal three times. One cycle consists of
pressing the pedal to the floor (maximum throttle position), releasing the pedal
(minimum throttle position) and pausing slightly between cycles. To begin the
calibration process, click on OK and immediately begin cycling the pedal as follows:
a. Press the pedal to the floor, pause, release and pause.
b. Press the pedal to the floor, pause, release and pause.
c. Press the pedal to the floor, pause, release and pause.
5. After a slight delay, if the calibration procedure was successful, the following message
window will be displayed.

A second indication of a successful throttle pedal calibration is that the throttle fault will
go from active to inactive. If the calibration was successful, click on OK and then turn
the ignition switch off and back on to cycle the power.
If throttle pedal calibration was not successful, the following screen will be displayed.

If the Throttle Pedal Calibration was not successful screen is displayed, click on OK
and repeat the throttle pedal cycling process until successful.

When replacing a throttle pedal on a vehicle equipped with a Cummins engine, use the
following labor code/allowance for recalibration.

Labor Code/Allowance ................................. 292 CU 01 1W — 0.2 hr. Additional time allowed for
recalibration when replacing a
throttle pedal on a vehicle
equipped with a Cummins engine.
