Geothermal Power Plant Visit:
Guide Questions
- What are the specific responsibilities of a chemical engineer in the plant?
- How is the available manpower managed? - How is the whole plant tailored to the local geography? What modifications (if any) to the usual process were made due to the climate, terrain, etc.? - What are the installed/designed and generating/actual capacities of the facility? - What are the operating conditions (flow rates, temperature, pressure, etc.)? - What are the unit operations/processes involved in the generation of electricity (from receiving the steam to distributing the power)? - What are the typical problems/limitations encountered (especially in the logistics of receiving the steam and the power distribution)? - How does the operations here differ from those in other geothermal plants (in the country and abroad)? - How large is the plant site? What are the types of turbines, generators, and transformers used and how many are there for each type? What is the total pipeline length? - What are the specifications of the equipment used (e.g. power consumption, total volume, rotation speed, input and output power, etc.)? - What are the capital/installation and operation costs of the plant facilities? What are the factors that affect the cost of the electricity generated? - What are the process control variables, and how are they regulated? What are the procedures done and standards applied to maintain the quality of the plant's operations? - How often are maintenance tests done? What happens during these checks? - What are the plant's health, safety, and environment (HSE) policies? How is waste management and pollution control done? - Are there any plans of expansion or renovation of the plant's operations?
