Introduction

Here I want to assess the students in Grade VII by conducting the test. The test is in
form of multiple choice consists of 15 items. There are 4 options in one question. The skill
that I want to assess here is reading skill in level 2, which means I want to assess their
understanding about the material. The material is descriptive text. The knowledge dimensions
that mostly appear in this assessment are factual and conceptual area. Not only that, I also
want to test whether my test items is reliable or not and valid or not. To test the validity, I
have 2 judges to check my items and use Gregory formula to calculate the value from the
judges and get the validity value of my items. For checking the reliability of my items, I use
ANATES application to check it. From the basic competence, I develop 3 indicators. The first
indicator is the students understand about the social function of descriptive text about simple
asking and giving description of people, animals, and things based on the function of the
context. It means that I want my students to understand about the purpose of the descriptive
text in social context. The second indicator is students understand the text structure of
descriptive text about simple asking and giving description of people, animals, and things
based on the function of the context. It means that students understand about the generic
structure of the text, such as the description of something. The last indicator is students
understand about the language features of descriptive text about simple asking and giving
description of people, animals, and things based on the function of the context. It means that I
want my students to understand the language features in the procedure text, especially the
vocabulary and grammar used in the text.

Explanation:

From the result above, the content validity is 0.73 which means the test is valid
because this value is higher than the standard value 0.3.

The criterion of validity is high based on the Gregory validity test criteria.
These are the Gregory Validity Test Criteria:

a. 0.80 - 1.00 = Very High

b. 0.60 - 0.79 = High

c. 0.40 - 0.59 = Medium

d. 0.20 - 0.39 = Low

e. 0.00 - 0.19 = Very Low

option B
and D

14 60 60 (Medium) 0.487 Used

15 20 75 (Easy) 0.261 Revised

option A

Explanation:

From those 15 items, the items that I used or in another word the items that have a
good answer distribution are 11 items. The revised items are 4 items because the questions
have low degree of discrimination values and the answer distribution is not good. It is not
good because a lot of students can guess the key answer easily. I saw it from the deception
quality in the ANATES, so I decided to revise some options to make the answer well
distributed and increase the value of deception quality. For number 5, I decided to revise
option B because only a few students answer that option. For number 8, I decided to revise
option A because also only a few students answer that option. For number 13, I decided to
revise option B and D because they have same number of students who answer it. For number
15, I decided to revise it because only few students answer that option. All of the items are
valid, but only 1 question has high significance, that is question number 3. There are 4
questions have medium significance, they are question number 7, 10, 11, 14. Rests of them
have low significance

Reliability:

This test is reliable because this test has reliability value of 0.73. It is over the
reliability criteria that is 0,7 < r < 1. The “r” here means the reliability value of the test. The
analysis of the test based on the reliability test on ANATES are:

Average: 8.70

Standard Intersection: 2.49

CorrelationXY: 0.58

Reliability Test: 0.73

So, the Test is reliable because the reliability test value is 0.73 and that is above the criteria of
0.7.

Conclusion

From the test that I made for Grade VII of Junior High School I can conclude that the
test is valid because the value is 0.73 it is higher than the standard value of validity 0.3 and
the validity criterion value is high. Yet there are 4 questions that should be revised because
most of them have quite similar option in one question and it makes the answer distribution
are not good. The judges also have the similar notes that 4 questions should be revised. The
revised options are for number 5, 8, 13 and 15. There is 1 hard question, 11 medium, and 3
easy questions in this test based on the index of difficulty of this test. For the significance, 1
question has high significance, 4 questions have medium significance and 11 questions have
low significance. The reliability value of this test is 0.73 and it over the criterion which is 0.7
which means the test items are reliable.
