[General remarks on Admiral Turner’s Testimony by members—some paraphrasing and
redacting by author] Senator Inouye: I would like to thank the Admiral and his staff for participating in this hearing. The record should show that this hearing was held at the request of the Agency. The record should also indicate that the Admiral has forwarded to this committee a classified file including all of the names of the institutions and the persons involved as the experimenters. As part of the ongoing investigation, we intend to call upon many experimenters, including Dr. Gottlieb. Admiral Turner, we have prepared several questions for you and we would like you to look them over and prepare responses for the record. Kennedy: I, too, want to thank Admiral Turner for his responsiveness. It is a very difficult challenge he has accepted in heading this Agency. I would like to see this issue put behind us, but I don’t think we are quite there yet. Thank you, Admiral, for your cooperation and your help. Turner: Thank you. Senator Huddleston: Mr. Chairman, I think you should emphasize that Admiral Turner informed the Select Committee on his own initiative when the new documentation was found and was supplied to us in a spirit of cooperation. This is quite a difference to our interactions with past heads of the Agency. [End of general remarks closing Admiral Turner’s testimony]
