ArtEffects offers young adults a collective space to pursue their


artistic expression, decompress, heal, develop mentorship, and
strengthen their community by building positive relationships.

RASHAAD, 15
Rashaad loves to paint, and painting with his mentor at ArtEffects after school gets him to walk into
school every day. His single-mom can’t afford paint and he finds it hard to focus at home, where simply
surviving can be a day-to-day challenge.
BARRIK, 17
Barrik loves all forms of art creation, so right now his biggest problem is seeing a project through to the
end! When he joined ArtEffects, he had just got into some legal trouble,out of necessesity, really, be-
cause his community has been drained of resources. A community leader invited him to ArtEffects and
he’s never looked back. He’s been accepted to a community college and his mentor is helping him find
scholarships.

Nik found out about ArtEffects when they moved back into the neighborhood to care for their ailing
mother. Nik loves to paint and helps mentor the students. Their favorite part? “Seeing these kids leave
for college and when they come back to visit.”
