Product Installation 1

®
This section provides installation instructions for Paydirt RoadWork
version 2.0.3 software.
Information on operating Paydirt RoadWork is provided in the Paydirt
RoadWork User Guide. Read these release notes in conjunction with
the Paydirt RoadWork User Guide.
Paydirt RoadWork is designed to let you quickly enter roadway cross
sections and compute earthwork and substrata quantities. It is useful
for contractors doing utility, excavation, and highway work,
eliminating the need for tedious hand calculations.

1.1 Software Installation

Note – Paydirt RoadWork version 2.002-0412 must be installed on
your computer before you can install version 2.0.3.
Paydirt RoadWork can be downloaded from the Trimble website.
To install the Paydirt RoadWork update:
1. Exit RoadWork if it is open.
2. Download the update from the Trimble Paydirt RoadWork
Support website and select Save this program to disk to copy the
self-extracting zip file to a temporary folder on your hard drive.
3. Open the temporary folder and double-click the
RoadWork203Update.exe file. You will be prompted to extract
the contents of the file to the C:\RoadWork203Update folder on
your hard drive. Click Unzip to extract the files, then click OK
and Close.
4. After the contents have been extracted, double-click the
Setup.exe file in the C:\RoadWork203Update folder to begin
installing the update. Follow the on-screen instructions as they
appear. This update is recommended for all clients using
RoadWork 2.0.

Program Changes and
Corrections 2

This section outlines corrections and additions made to Paydirt

RoadWork version 2.0.3 software since the manual went to print.

2.0.1 Non-Interval Station Input

Previously, RoadWork would not allow you to enter cross sections at
stations other than the defined interval stations. Now, you can enter a
non-interval station value in the Station field of the 4-Point Locate or
2-Point Locate dialog box and enter the surface information for that
station.

2.0.2 Vertical Offsets

When entering a vertical offset during the Draw Cross Section
command, a negative offset value produces a surface whose elevation
is lower than the digitized line, while a positive offset value produces a
surface whose elevation is higher than the digitized line.

2.0.3 Default Surfaces

Previously, you could only set the Existing surface as the Initial
surface and the Proposed surface as the Final surface. Now, you can
set any surface as the Initial or Final surface. For example, you can
create a surface called Alternate and run volumes between the Initial
surface and the Alternate surface.
To set the surfaces for which you want to run volumes:
1. Select Manage / Roads.
2. Select the Surfaces tab in the Road Manager dialog box (see
figure, next page).

Paydirt RoadWork 2.0.3 Release Notes 7

3. Highlight the surface you want to represent the initial surface
and select the Initial surface type.
4. Highlight the surface you want to represent the final surface and
select the Final surface type.
Use the Reference surface type to disable the use of a surface in
volume calculations. Reference surfaces are displayed in the cross
section view for reference purposes only.

2.0.4 Stripping
Stripping is entered as a series of station ranges, where the stripping
depth is constant throughout a single stripping range.

8 Paydirt RoadWork 2.0.3 Release Notes

Details on Stripping Functionality
• To define a new stripping depth for a station range in a project,
click on the Stripping tab of the Road Manager dialog box.
Enter the beginning station of the new stripping range. Enter a
stripping depth in the Depth field of the new stripping range.
• Stripping is always defined for the entire length of the project.
When a project is created, a single stripping range is defined
from the beginning of the project to the end. To prevent
stripping from being calculated, enter 0 in the Depth field.
Note – The end of a stripping range is linked to the beginning of
the next stripping range. If either value is changed, the other
will automatically be updated.
• To delete a stripping range, select the range to delete and click
.
• If the beginning or end of a stripping range is defined at a
station where a cross section is not stored, RoadWork
interpolates a cross section in order to properly calculate
stripping volumes.
• RoadWork displays an error message if you attempt to change
the beginning station of a stripping range beyond the end of the
current stripping range, or before the beginning of the previous
stripping range. Also, an error message is displayed if the
ending station of a stripping range is adjusted to before the
beginning of the current stripping range or past the end of the
following stripping range.

Paydirt RoadWork 2.0.3 Release Notes 9

Using RoadWork Projects from Versions Prior to 2.03
• In previous versions of RoadWork, if different stripping depths
were entered at consecutive stripping ranges, the stripping depth
was interpolated between the beginning station of the first range
and the beginning station of the subsequent range. Loading a
project from previous versions of RoadWork into this version
will convert the original stripping configuration to the new
configuration. This may result in the most recent version of
RoadWork calculating stripping quantities that differ from
quantities calculated in previous versions.

C Warning – Opening a RoadWork version 2.03 project file in previous

versions of RoadWork will produce unexpected results for stripping. To
prevent this, delete and re-enter stripping after opening the file in a
previous version of RoadWork.

Known Issues 3

This section outlines issues that were found but not corrected at the
time the version was released.

3.0.1 Keyboard Delete Key

If you use the keyboard [Delete] key to delete a stripping range, you
may get a gap in the ranges displayed in the stripping table (e.g. Range
"Begin - 5+00" and Range "10+01 - End"). RoadWork reports will
extend the Begin - 5+00 range to station 10+00 in this case. To correct
the display you may edit either the preceding or subsequent range.
