Usability Testing

Participants Background and Overview

The usability testing was conducted on six participants. Participants are ranged from age 18 to 22, with
the variations of 4 women and 2 men. Most of the participants have background in arts and music, and
mainly have interest and hobby in music. One of the participants had experience in developing
applications. The participants are very responsive to criticize the design and contents, and as for ease of
use, all of them did not experience any confusion because they are familiar with similar applications.
Most of their critics are in the area of features and placing of the components.

Task Description : Show user profile, edit user profile including interests and
friends.

Summary:

Most of the usability and user experience goal has been achieved. However, we thought
that the options to edit profile accessibility should be added, and the profile design
should be more interesting and eye-catching.

Conclusion: has almost been achieved and still require minor revision.

 Emoticon to liven up the chats.

 Confirmation to receive chat if a person wasn’t a friend.
 Mute chats.
 Chat tabs should be shown as list or in different windows (for example, in
Facebook), so if the tabs were so many, user wouldn’t get confused to search the
chat.

Summary:

From the result of the questionnaire, it is clear that adding and deleting friend usability
goal and user experience has been achieved. However, the chat features need revisions
and should be discussed further.

Conclusion:

Add and delete friends: has been achieved and no design revision is necessary.

Chatting: has not been achieved and require major design revision. (re-design of
interface and interaction is not needed because even though the features is lacking,
chats is still working and accommodate basic needs).

Summary:

Most of the participants said that the community features are already good. Few
participants have opinion that the information on the homepage should be added, such
as top groups with most members. As for adding administrator, the participants actually
said that the process is too easy. Usually in a group, adding an administrator can only be
done by the group’s current administrator, and the member should have some
experience in the group.

Conclusion:

Make Community, Edit Community: has been achieved and no design revision is
necessary.

Decorate Community, Add Administrator, Homepage: has almost been achieved and still
require minor revision.

Summary:

Joining and leaving community is relatively easy, whereas creating thread need more
features, which are tags and grouping. Tags are essential when users want to search a
topic from many threads, allowing them to see what kind of tags available and popular.
Thread, posting, and chat are equally essential.

Conclusion:

necessary.

Summary:

In terms of identifying features in the interface, all of the participants can notice them
easily. As for the community suggestion, we do think that it is a matter of users’
preference. The feature itself is necessary, so to accommodate the users’ need and
preference, we think that an option should be given on whether they could show or hide
the community suggestion.
