Prayer for the Canonization of Fr. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to
lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life
and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his
commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church. Let the
inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may
continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you
glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the
design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (here
make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

As we all know we are in the midst of the Lenten Season. Many of you have “given something up” for Lent
and are faithfully not eating meat on Fridays. And that’s great. And we all know that Lent is the 40 day
period that comes before Easter and begins on Ash Wednesday. But what does it really mean? Lent is a great
opportunity for us to prepare for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. And there are several ways that we
can do this. Yes, fasting and self-sacrifice are certainly two of them. But often these things become more
about us then God. The whole purpose of Lent is for us to use this time to grow closer to God. To grow our
relationship with God. Prayer is always the most obvious way that we have to grow our relationship with
God. Lent is a time of Spiritual renewal. A time to prepare ourselves to honor the memory of Christ’s
passion, death and resurrection. This is a time to bring ourselves back in tune with this divine plan. The Gospel of Mark tells us
that the very first words spoken to us by Jesus were” The kingdom of God is at Hand. Repent and believe in the Gospel.” These
are the words spoken to us as we receive our ashes on Ash Wednesday. So Fast, Sacrifice, give to the poor. But don’t forget to
take the time to pray. Try attending a Stations of the Cross during this season. Use this time to take the opportunity to grow your
relationship with God and prepare yourself for his arrival on Easter.

In March we also Celebrate Founders Day. The weekend of March 10th and 11th, Councils in the Order are asked to conduct, if
possible, a Church Membership Drive. The week of March 12-18 is Council Outreach Week. All Councils are encouraged to
conduct charitable service projects during this week in honor of Fr. McGivney. The Following week, the week of March 19-25th
Councils are encouraged to hold an Admission Degree, also in Honor of our Founder, Fr. McGivney. And we end the month with
our Day of Prayer for the Unborn Child on March 25th. For more information on this Prayer Service, visit the Culture of Life
section of the K of C website at kofc.org/service.

My wife Jessica and I would like to wish all of you a very happy and blessed Easter

Council hosted the Chapter Meeting and it
was “State Deputy Night”. At this Meeting
the Final C & B numbers were discussed
and it was made “Official”. Patchogue
Council 725 was #1 in the State with 4,192
Books sold, and Suffolk County was the top
selling Conference in the State once again!
Pictured here is Patchogue Council Grand
Knight John Praino accepting Congratula-
tions (and a nice fat bonus check) from
NYS Deputy Ken Latham Jr. (L) and a
hardy handshake from NYS C & B
Chairman Tony Marengo (C). Also on hand
were the Long Island Conference
Coordinator Ken Karchinski (R) & the
Suffolk Conference Coordinator Tom Fawcett (FR). Once again Congratulations to John and Patchogue Council on a job well
done!!

On Saturday, March 17th from Noon until 1 PM a Public Square Rosary Rally in
support of Traditional Marriage will be held in the Carvel Parking Lot
(Main St & Rider Ave) in Patchogue. For more information people can call Mike
at 631-475-8017. All are welcome and encouraged to join us in support of
Traditional Marriage. Here are ten reasons why we as Catholics must Support
Traditional Marriage:

1. Traditional Marriage deserves public recognition. To quote Pope Pius XI in his encycli-
cal on Christian Marriage, “How great is the dignity of chaste wedlock.”
2. To proclaim that marriage is between one man and one woman. Due to the sexual revo-
lution, society’s understanding of true marriage has become blurred. Let us charitably remind
our fellow Americans what true marriage is.
3. Traditional Marriage is good for the family. Healthy marriages produce healthy families.
4. Traditional Marriage is good for America. America is simply a union of thousands of
families.
When marriage and the family are healthy so is America. “The fountainhead from which
the State draws its life (is) wedlock and the family.” Pope Pius XI.
5. “Many marriages are not good and do not please Our Lord.” Our Lady of Fatima to
Blessed Jacinta. This was said by Our Lady in 1917. What would Our Lady say today? We
need to offer public prayer so that Holy and Traditional Marriage will be restored in America.
6. Saint Joseph is “the Spouse of the Mother of God” and “the Pillar of Families.” These
rallies are being held in his honor seeking his intervention to restore traditional marriage to
America.
7. “The entire Christian life bears the mark of the spousal love of Christ and the Church.
Christian marriage in its turn becomes an efficacious sign, the sacrament of the covenant of
Christ and the Church.” Paragraph 1617 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
8. We can have total confidence that our public prayer will get results. Our prayers will
bring graces down upon all who see our rallies and will help restore traditional marriage and
the family in America.
9. Half of marriages end in divorce. This is not part of God’s plan. Our prayerful presence
and sacrifice of offering our rally in public will help to foster traditional and wholesome marriages
that produce children who will become candidates for heaven.
10. In times of evil, we have an even greater duty to stand up for the teachings and institutions
of the Church. By these rallies let us show Our Lord that we stand up for traditional
marriage which was created by Him. In return He will bless our efforts and count us among
His chosen disciples just like Saint Veronica, the Holy Women, Saint John, Saint Mary Magdalene
and of course, Our Lady.

unique encounter with nine rare Relics of Christ’s
Passion to set the tone for your Lenten devotions.
Having the opportunity to be in the presence of
these holy relics while thy are here in the area is
sure to be an experience that will help you connect
with the very roots of your faith.

Rockville Centre during the 2018 Lenten Season.

The Relics of the Passion collection includes:

WE CARE - WE SHARE

My Dear Sister Columbiettes and Brother Knights,

Yeah, Spring is only three weeks away, so let's say good bye to winter. Spring is my favorite time of the year. I
love to watch the new leaves grow on the trees and the flowers blossom and display their colors. This is also a
Holy time of the year with Lent and Easter and all the wonderful and spiritual events that come with it. It's also
the time of the year to really get busy with the preparations for the Victorian Tea on April 18th. Please contact me or Elaine
Addie to let us know how you would like to help by putting your talents to good use. We need volunteers to help filling,
wrapping, and pricing the baskets for the Chinese auction. We need volunteers to make sandwiches and desserts. We need
volunteers to help sell the chances and tickets. We need volunteers to help with the set up and clean up. The Victorian Tea
is our major event and biggest money maker and it takes a village to get it ready. We only have a limited number of tables
and they are selling out fast, so let your friends know early.

April is going to be a very busy month beginning with our joint Communion Breakfast with the Knights. Mass will be 9:30
at St. Joseph the Worker RC Church, 512 Narragansett Ave, Patchogue with breakfast to follow at Patchogue Council 725,
38 W. First St, Patchogue. The cost is $12.00 per person. To reserve please call James Addie, 1-516-819-6693 or Elaine
Addie 631-475-5722. We also have a Major Degree on April 20th, so please remind any of your friends who took their first
degree to mark their calendar if they have not already made their major degree.

Just a reminder our March meeting is the 21st at 7 pm. Please bring some goodies to share with your sister Columbiettes if
you can.

I wish to thank Terry Bobe for stepping in for me at the February meeting while I was away. I was told she did a wonderful
job.

I would like to wish all our March Birthday Baby’s a Very Happy and Healthy Birthday.

Please take note of my new phone number as I will no longer be using the 631 number.

May the peace of our Lord be with you always,
