SPECTATOR GUIDE

1
Overview of The Courier Eureka Rally

The Courier Eureka Rally is the first event of the 2018 Australian
Rally Championship (ARC), the first event of the 2018 Focus On
Furniture and Bedding Victorian Rally Championship (VRC) and
will count towards numerous other Championships and Awards.

Message from the Clerk of Course

Welcome and we invite you the 2018 The Courier Eureka Rally!
The event is set to be a great opening round of the 2018 seasons for both the CAMS
Australian Rally Championship®(ARC) and the Focus On Furniture and Bedding
Victorian Rally Championship.

Ballarat is a great base for a heat of the ARC. It has all that a capital city has to offer,
but not only is it far easier to get about in, it is a beautiful provincial city to visit as well
with easy Freeway access from the east and the west. The service park and Rally Hub
is located at the Ballarat Airport and the public is invited to visit and see the service
teams at work.

Saturday will feature four compact stages with little break between them in the Wombat
Forest to the east of Ballarat. Sunday will involve less liaison distance to link four
stages looping south of Ballarat. Thanks to the Department of Environment, Land,
Water and Planning for access to the great forests and to the Shires of Moorabool and
Golden Plains for access to their roads.
The event is fortunate to have the considerable support of The Courier, Ballarat City
Council, Ballarat Regional Tourism and the Victorian State Government among a host of
further event sponsors and partners.

The Victorian rally community is excited to once again be hosting a round of the ARC,
and a large pool of friendly, dedicated and committed volunteer officials is looking
forward to delivering an event to be proud of.
So, please join us!

Motor Sport Is Dangerous
Motor Sport Activities are inherently dangerous recreational activities,
and there is significant risk of injury, disability or death.
If you choose to participate in these activities, and you are killed or injured because the activities were not
supplied with due care and skill, or were not reasonably fit for their purpose, your rights to sue the
Confederation of Australia Motor Sport Ltd (CAMS) and/or the Entities* are excluded, restricted or modified.
For full details of the exclusion, restriction or modification of your rights please refer to http://www.cams.com.au/

Come Spectating
1. Be prepared, weather-wise. Bring a hat, ground cover, sun screen, and protection in case of rain or cold
weather. If food and drink are not available at spectator points make sure that you bring your own.

2. Park your car sensibly so that it will not obstruct emergency vehicles, competitors, service crews or other
spectators. Obey parking instructions given by signs or officials. It is advisable to park your car facing the
way out. This will make your exit easier.

3. Do not try to emulate rally drivers. If you give cause for complaint it will reflect badly on the rally and the
sport as a whole. Drive carefully to and from spectator points and be ready to give way to other traffic on
narrow stretches of road.

4. If you have to take dogs or young children to spectator points, make sure they are completely under
your control and that they do not get in the way of rally cars or mechanics or officials at work.

5. Do not light fires or smoke in the forests. Do not smoke near a car that is being serviced or refuelled.

6. Keep clear of rally control points at all times from the timing marker to the control. If control officials
ask you to move, please help them maintain event safety by doing so. Remember that they have a difficult
job to do as it is. If you want to see a control point in action, then stand well back.

7. Rally cars can lose control and leave the road at any time. Make sure that you stand behind the
orange webbing within the areas designated for viewing by this spectator guide or officials or marshals. Do
not stand in No Go areas or outside the designated viewing areas.

8. The instructions of spectator marshals must be obeyed. They have the power to stop a stage until
the spectator point is controlled to their satisfaction.

9. Do not ignore this spectator guide and try and find your own way around. The spectator route in this
Guide has been surveyed and is safe.

10. Take your litter home. It is handy to have bag or carton with you. Please leave our countryside tidy.

11. At service or refuel points do not crowd mechanics when they are working. Besides hindering them,
you may get injured.

On Saturday two spectator points are provided with the cars passing through
twice. These points will be referred to as Sat 1&3 (where this point is your first and
third opportunity to see the cars on Saturday) and Sat 2&4 (where this is your
second and fourth opportunity to see the cars on Saturday).

Generally there will be sufficient time to move between the spectator points to allow
viewing at all points on a given day and perhaps even time to visit Ballarat or a
nearby town for lunch. Some of these options will not be possible if you want to stay
at a given point for the entire field of cars.
