NARRATIVE and PICTORIAL REPORT


on the 2017 NATONAL DISASTER RESILIENCE MONTH

I. INTRODUCTION

Department of Education officially designated July as the National Disaster


Resilience Month with the theme: ““4k: Kamalayan sa Kahandaan, Katumbas ay
Kaligtasan” from July 1 to 31, 2017, in compliance to Republic Act 10121 of 2010
also known as the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act.

This celebration aims to increase the awareness of every Filipino especially


pupils and school personnels on natural and man-made hazards for a better
appreciation of the department’s disaster preparedness program.

In line with this, Balanti Elementary School joined the month-long celebration
and conducted activities to honor the said event.

II. OBJECTIVES

The celebration aims to:

1. Disseminate information and raise awareness about hazards,


vulnerabilities and risks, their nature, effects, warning signs and
counter measures.
2. Encourage stakeholders to participate in school activities and
programs.

3. Create awareness among the pupils and school personnel about


the disasters that our country might encounter.

III. ACTIVITIES

During the one – month celebration, the school conducted different activities
that involved the active participation of the teachers, parents, and pupils.

1. DRRM Quiz Bee

Chosen pupils from Grades Four to Six participated to answer questions


about risk reduction.

2. Poster and Slogan Making Contest

Pupils from Grades Four to Six made posters and slogans which were
inspired with this year’s theme.

3. Essay Writing Contest

Chosen pupils from Grades Four to Six participated to write an essay about
risk reduction and disaster preparedness.

4. Story Writing Contest

Chosen pupils from Grades Four to Six participated to write a story about risk
reduction and disaster preparedness. The story that they have submitted won 2 nd
place in the Division Level.

5. Jingle Making Contest

Chosen pupils from Grades Four to Six participated to compose a jingle


about risk reduction and disaster preparedness.
6. Singlet Making Contest

Chosen pupils from Grades Four to Six participated and created designs for
the fun run.

7. Hazzard Mapping

The student watching team conducted hazard mapping within the school
premises to identify places that can be considered unsafe.

8. Kick-Off Parade

Pupils joined the parade as an indication of the observance of the National


Disaster Resilience Month. All of them were encouraged to wear a rug as a head
protection with flashlight and whistle.
