Students will use this website to learn about the conservation of water. Teachers can start the
lesson with a discussion on water conservation be asking “how much water do you use every
day”. Once students have guessed, they will then log into Down the Drain and follow the website.
This website will take them through the scientific process of forming a hypothesis and collecting
data. Students will use their own data to form conclusions on who much water they use. After
they complete the project, the instructor can lead the class in a closing discussion on how they
can conserve clean water and why it’s important not to waste it.
The only technology need for this lesson are computers for the students. The teacher can use a
computer lab or split the students into group if there are not enough computes.
a. This website allows students to share their data with their peers. They can
compare data from other schools as well.
b. Student-Learning is vital for this project. Students will collect their own data and
form their own hypothesis. They will also use this data to make graphs and charts
displaying their information.
c. Students will use Higher-Order thinking by analyzing the data and then drawing
conclusions on what they see. Students will display understand on how their
choices impact the environment.

LoTi level 5 can be achieved through this activity. Students will become aware of water
conservation by exploring how much water they use every day. They will also integrate this
information into data they can share with peers and professionals. This information can be used
to engage others into a discussion on water conservation and what they can do to protect their
environment.
This site is internet safe because it doesn’t ask for personal information and student don’t have to
share their personal information.
