STANDARD LESSON PLAN FORMAT

I. Describe the Class

The classroom contains fifteen preschoolers from ages of 3 yrs. to 3 ½ years old. In

the class there are five children who are physically challenged, two children who are

mentally challenged, six who are gifted, and two who have a hearing challenge.

II. Objective(s)
To teach the concept and understating of imitating rhythmic patterns and expressive

movement. Students will be able to effectively imitate a repeated rhythmic pattern

and expressive movement to the song.

III. Procedures
Introduce the activity by first reading the book “Row, Row, Row, Your Boat to the

children. Afterwards, children will then gather with a partner and sit on the floor

facing each other with legs stretched out in front of them. Grasping hands, toddlers

should pull gently back and forth as they sing, “Row, Row, Row, Your

Boat…………..”

IV. Materials
The book named Row, Row, Row, Your Boat by Pippa Goodhart, and Audio of the

song Row, Row, Row Your Boat.

V. Grouping Structures
Children will have a partner to perform ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat”. With a partner,

students will listen to the music and practice the rhythmic pattern using their body to

move back and forth.

VI. Modifications
- Teacher will change the words in the song from “gently down the stream” to other

things like “Quickly down the stream”, “Slowly down the stream”, or “Bumpily down

the stream to expand children’s vocabulary language and motor skills.

- Hearing Challenged Student: Teacher must make sure that the child was sitting

close enough to the front to see the directions.

- Physically Challenged: Students should individually perform the lesson without

assistance. The child can do an upper body wave when the other students do the full

body wave.

- Mentally challenged: If the child is having difficulty multi-tasking in this song, the

teacher can help the child focus on one thing at a time.

- Gifted Child: Allow the child to perform for peers. If the child excels faster than the

other students, have the child assist peers who might be having difficulty.

VII. Assessment

- Listen to make sure that all, if not most children are imitating the correct rhythmic

pattern.

- Watch to make sure that all of the children are performing the movement and the

expressive movement.

- Assess the children by observing the class as they perform. Listen and watch

children sing. Make sure children understand the concepts of this lesson plan.
