Yoonmi Choi Trio Jazz Concert...

Yoonmi Choi Trio Jazz Concert is to be held at Art Factory in Seoul on Sunday at 8 PM. Yoonmi Choi
Trio consists of the pianist Yoonmi Choi, bassist Joon-young Park, and drummer Nam-hyuk Cho. The
Yoonmi Choi Trio was founded in 2013, and was introduced in the ‘Global Union of Young Artists,’ a
union of young musicians from around the world who are to carry the music of future.

Yoonmi Choi is a promising jazz pianist in Korea who started playing the piano at the age of 3. While
studying classical piano at Incheon Arts High School and Sookmyung Women’s University, she has
shown a lot of achievements. She then became interested in the genre of jazz, of which became the
motive to study further in jazz piano in Korea and the Netherlands.

Yoonmi Choi has been active in the Netherlands, and has been active in various places such as jazz
club, museums, art centers, as well as various festivals around Europe and Asia.

Yoonmi Choi’s own compositions are made in a contemporary jazz style, which is the most challenging
musical style at present, but her beautiful melodies and harmonies are well mixed.

She returned to Korea last year, and she has teamed up with Joon-young Park and Nam-hyuk Cho. She

Namwon Junior High School, Korea-Russia Jazz Duo


Invitation Performance Held with Great Success
Namwon Junior High School (Principal Ok-hee Woo) successfully hosted the jazz
concert performance with the participation of 350 people, including students, faculty,
parents, alumni, and villagers in the gymnasium on the 4th.

The concert was a duo with Sergey Avanesov (Russia) saxophonist who receives the
most attention in New York andKorea’s jazz pianist Yoonmi Choi (2014 Netherlands
Leiden International Jazz Competition winner)

Students who had difficulty encountering jazz in everyday life, had the opportunity to
spend time sufficed the emotional and artistic needs, and the parents, residents, and
alumni had the chance to hold a conference regarding school issues along with the
concert.

Principal Ok-hee Woo deliberated that “this performance has become a precious time
to get to know others’ cultures and arts for the people who are relatively alienated from

Global Jazz Pianist Yoonmi Choi Takes Charge of ‘Garden


State Opera Big Band’ in 2 Years of New York
- The opening concert will be held in New Jersey on the 22nd

The young jazz pianist Yoonmi Choi, by taking charge of the big band
orchestra ‘Garden State Opera Big Band,’ has made a big impression on the
New York jazz music scene as a Korean.
Garden State Opera Inc., a non-profit cultural organization in New York, has
stated that Yoonmi Choi, who takes active participation as a music director at
the New York Off Broadway show, is titled the music director for the Garden
State Opera Big Band, a big band orchestra composed of 17 members. This is
a remarkable achievement for Director Yoonmi Choi, who has only spent 2
years after moving her performance stage to New York in 2015.

Garden State Opera Big Band that is directed by Yoonmi Choi will be
performing actively under the title of ‘Ginger and Honey Big Band Orchestra,’
and it has been decided that Director Choi will select and direct the
performers herself and hold a concert for the opening ceremony in New
Jersey on the 22nd (Thurs.) with the leader Sung-bae Joo.

Aside from Music Director Yoonmi Choi, the members of the Ginger and
Honey Big Band Orchestra are 16 New York musicians who are working
internationally, most of whom graduated from Manhattan College of Music,
New York University, New School University, or other European universities.
Bassist Eun-jung Cho and the tenor saxophonist Myung-han Yoo are the
Koreans who will be joining.

Director Yoonmi Choi started playing the piano at the age of 3, majored in
classical piano at Incheon Arts High School and Sookmyung Women’s
University, and studied jazz piano in Korea and the Netherlands after
expanding her field to jazz genre. As well as being invited to various jazz
festivals in Europe, she performed more than 300 concerts in countries such
as Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, and Italy. After winning the ‘2014
Netherlands Leiden International Jazz Competition,’ she is continuing her
musical activities domestically and internationally.
Director Yoonmi Choi delivered about the big band orchestra established that
she will “make an influential big band based on the swing and contemporary
jazz.”
