The Re#l-time Tr#nsport Protocol (RTP) is * network protocol for
delivering *udio *nd video over IP networks. RTP is used extensively in
communic*tion *nd entert*inment systems th*t involve stre*ming medi*, such *s telephony, video teleconference *pplic*tions including WebRTC, television services *nd web-b*sed push-to- t*lk fe*tures. RTP typic*lly runs over User D*t*gr*m Protocol (UDP). RTP is used in conjunction with the RTP Control Protocol (RTCP). While RTP c*rries the medi* stre*ms (e.g., *udio *nd video), RTCP is used to monitor tr*nsmission st*tistics *nd qu*lity of service (QoS) *nd *ids synchroniz*tion of multiple stre*ms. RTP is one of the technic*l found*tions of Voice over IP *nd in this context is often used in conjunction with * sign*ling protocol such *s the Session Initi*tion Protocol (SIP) which est*blishes connections *cross the network. RTP w*s developed by the Audio-Video Tr*nsport Working Group of the Internet Engineering T*sk Force (IETF) *nd first published in 1996 *s RFC 1889, superseded by RFC 3550 in 2003.
