The system modes are:

Models Modes
AP Auto > Cool > Dry > Fan > Heat >
EC Cool > Dry > Fan >

2.2 Power Up Settings

During power up, the system can be configured to memorize the settings prior to power down. This is
done by shorting the 2 way straight header J_LST. The settings that are memorized are:-

2
a) Mode & On/Off status
b) Set Temperature
c) Fan Speed
d) DC swing
e) AC swing
f) Key Lock (for wired control)

These data or settings are save in non-volatile memory.

The CPU will save the updated settings into the memory 10 seconds after changes are confirmed.
However, it will take 3 seconds to update the memory if the unit changes from on to off state.

If the J_LST is not shorted or memory corrupted, the default settings are
a) Unit : OFF,
b) Mode : COOL,
c) Set Temp. : 24°C,
d) Indoor fan speed: HIGH
e) SWING OFF

2.3 Unit ON/OFF

There are 3 ways to turn on or off the system:

i) via ON/OFF triggering
ii) via real-time ON/OFF timer

2.3.1 ON/OFF triggering

ON/OFF triggering can be achieved by pressing the emergency ON/OFF button or the LCD remote
controller ON/OFF button. In doing so, the DELAY timer will be reset.

When the emergency ON/OFF button is pressed, the system mode setting will rotate in the following
sequence:-
MODEL SEQUENCE
AP ---------- > COOL > HEAT > OFF > ------------
EC --------------->COOL > OFF >------------------

The corresponding LEDs will also follow suit.

Pressing the wired/wireless controller ON/OFF button will toggle the system status either from ON to
OFF or from OFF to ON.

2.3.2 Real Time ON/OFF timer

When the real time ON timer set time matches the internal real time clock, the unit will be switched on.
Similarly, when the OFF time matches the real time clock, the unit is switched off. The timer settings
are retained so that similar switching can occur 24 hours later.
These timers will be deactivated if the emergency ON/OFF switch is pressed.

2.4 Temperature Range and Settings

The operating temperature range is 16 °C to 30 °C (60°F to 86°F), both inclusive. Temperature setting
is allowed in COOL, DRY, HEAT and AUTO modes.

3
2.5 Sleep Function

This function will increase or decrease the set temperature with time. The COOL and HEAT mode
SLEEP profile is as follows:

Mode Algorithm
Cool

Heat

The SLEEP function is only available for COOL, HEAT and AUTO modes. Changing to other modes
will inhibit the SLEEP function and the timer will be reset.

Pressing the emergency ON/OFF will deactivate and clear the sleep function.

This function is set/reset by the wired/wireless controller.

2.6 Indoor Fan Control

The indoor fan speeds are LO, MED, HIGH or AUTO FAN in COOL, HEAT and AUTO modes.

In FAN mode, only HI, MED and LO speeds are allowed.

2.7 Louver and Swing Control

The swing will run if indoor fan is on and vice versa.

If unit switches from off mode to on mode, the louver will stop at the last position when it goes from on
to off mode.

4
2.8 IONIZER Control

The IONIZER will be turned ON when indoor fan is running and it will be turned OFF when indoor fan
stop.

This function is set/reset by the wireless controller.

2.9 TURBO Function

TURBO function is available in COOL, HEAT and DRY modes only. The indoor fan will force to high
fan. After 20 minutes, this function will clear automatically, indoor fan speed will restore. Cold start will
be overridden when TURBO function is activated. If TURBO and SLEEP are activated at the same
time, the SLEEP mode timer will be reset, it will resume after TURBO function is cleared.

Compressor cut out will deactivate TURBO function.

2.10 Heat Mode Offset 2°C Option

If DOT is open, the HEAT mode set temperature will be added by 2°C. This option is not applicable in
AUTO HEAT mode.

3 Operating Modes
The system mode is set by the wired/wireless control. The actual mode will be shown on the mode
LEDs. Mode changes respond 2 seconds after data reception.

3.1 Cold Start

When the unit restarts 2 hours after it has stopped or during power-on-reset start, it is considered a
cold start. This feature is not available in sleep mode.

3.2 Cool Mode

In Cool mode, the compressor will be cut in if the Tr - Ts > 0.5°C and the compressor will be cut out if
the Tr < Ts - 1.0°C, subject to timing protections.

In this mode, the indoor fan is always running. For manual speed, the indoor fan will run as per user
set speed. In AUTO FAN speed, the indoor fan speed will run as follows:

5

3.3 Dry Mode

During the first 12 minutes of the DRY mode run from:

i) Cold Start or
ii) Mode change from HEAT, FAN or AUTO HEAT

Dry mode must run under cool mode with AUTO indoor fan for 12 minutes or until
Tr < Ts - 1°C.

After this, the dry mode may run under either Zone A, B, C or D as below:

i) if Tr - Ts > 2°C , the operation is in Zone A

ii) if 1°C < Ts - Tr < 2°C , then the operation is in Zone C.
iii) if 0°C < Tr - Ts < 1°C, then the operation is in Zone B.
iv) if Ts - Tr > 3°C, then the operation is in Zone D.
v) the other temperature ranges are dead bands for zone stability.

6
The sequence for the various zones is as shown:
Condition Zone Algorithm
i) if Tr - Ts > 2°C A

ii) if 0°C < Tr - Ts < 1°C B

iii) if 1°C < Ts - Tr < 2°C C

iv) if Ts – Tr > 3°C D

v) the other temperature ranges - -

are dead bands for zone
stability.

3.4 Fan Mode

Only HI, MED and LO speeds are allowed.

The compressor and the outdoor fan will stop. Similarly, the 4-way valve will turn off.

7
3.5 Heat Mode

There is a model of heat mode, namely auto heatpump (AP).

3.5.1 Heat Pump Model

The compressor will be cut in if the Tr < Ts+1 and it will be cut out if Tr - Ts > 3.5°C, subject to timing
protections.
If DOT is open, the HEAT mode set temperature will be added by 2°C.

For manual speed, the indoor fan will run as per user set speed. In AUTO FAN speed, the indoor fan
speed will run as follows:

°C

+3.5
+3.0
+2.0

+1.0
Ts

M H M L M H M L COMP
OFF
COMP COMP
OFF ON

These fan speeds are subjected to the following Hot start and Hot keep features:

3.5.1.1 Hot Start

During the cut in cycle, the indoor fan speed will modulate according to the indoor coil temperature:

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at user set fan speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature < 18°C, the indoor fan speed will stop. For fan always ON option,
then indoor fan will run low.
iii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses the 30°C mark, the indoor fan speed will be changed to
low. (either start from off, or change from higher speed)

3.5.1.2 Hot Keep

When the compressor cuts out, the unit is in hot keep mode. There are 3 options of Hot Keep:

8
Fan on option

This option is selected if a 22k ohm resistor is inserted into RFAN.

The start of heat mode, is defined as when:

a) the unit is just turned on from off with setting in Heat mode OR
b) the mode changes from non-heat to Heat mode OR
c) just after the end of a defrost cycle,

The hot keep cycle at the start of heat mode will be as follow:
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
i) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run low.
ii) if indoor coil temperature < 30°C, the indoor fan will stop.

For thermostat cycle cut offs, the following hot keep cycle will apply:
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run at low speed.
iii) if indoor coil temperature < 18°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Fan off option

This option is selected if a 7k5 ohm resistor is inserted into RFAN.

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run at low speed.
iii) if indoor coil temperature < 30°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Fan low cycle on & off option

This option is selected if a 3k ohm resistor is inserted into RFAN.

The low fan will cut in for 30 seconds and subsequently off for 120 seconds. These cycle of on and off
will repeat.

3.5.1.3 4-way valve switching

To run heat pump, the 4-way valve must turn ON. Upon return to a non-heat pump mode, the 4-way
must turn OFF. The 4-way valve can only be changed 55+/- 5 seconds after the compressor has been
cut out. Then the compressor may be cut in 4 seconds later.

3.6 Auto Mode

Under AUTO mode, the mode can be selected automatically between Heat and Cool mode,
depending on the room temperature and Set Temperature. There is no cold start in Auto mode.
If the present Auto mode is Cool, its mode Set Temperature is the same as the user Set Temperature.
This mode will only change to Heat mode if :-

i) Tr <= Ts mode - 3.5°C AND

ii) the compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.

If the present Auto mode is heat, its mode set temperature is 1.5°C below the user Set Temperature.
This mode will only change to Cool mode if:-
i) Tr > Ts mode + 3.0°C AND
ii) the compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.

9
Cool and Heat options working under Auto mode are the same as those working under non-Auto
mode.

3.7 Defrost Mode

A defrost timer will start counting when the outdoor heat exchange thermistor is below +3°C.
Upon crossing over +5°C to a higher temperature for more than 150 seconds, the timer will be reset.
The temperature sensing could only be done when the compressor run time is more than 2 minutes.

The likelihood of ice frosting at the outdoor coil is characterized by 3 gradients of outdoor temperature
shown in the chart below:

-8 defrost mode if more

than 3 minutes

Defrost mode will be activated if the compressor run time is:

i) 30 mins to 1 hour below 3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-8°C for more than
3 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then the defrost mode can be started.

ii) 1 hour to 2 hours below +3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-4°C for more
than 3 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then the defrost mode can be started.

iii) more than 2 hours below +3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-2°C for more
than 3 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then the defrost mode can be started.
If unit in outdoor fan forced off mode, the defrost will not be allowed to be declared.
3.7.1 Defrost cycle

In the defrost cycle, the HEAT LED will blink only in SLM3.

10
When defrost starts, the indoor fan, auxiliary heater, outdoor fan & 4-way valve will cut off while the
compressor remains running.

The defrost will terminate if:-

a) Temperature of outdoor exchange coil exceeds +10°C or
b) A minimum of 10 minutes compressor run time is achieved.

At the end of the defrost cycle, the compressor cuts out. The 4-way valve switches on 15 +/- 5
seconds later. The compressor can cut in 20 seconds after the 4-way valve has cut in.

3.8 Off mode

When the unit is off, no indication will be provided. All relays will be turned off immediately after the
ON/OFF triggering except the 4-way valve which is subjected to the 55 +/- 5 seconds protection
where applicable.

4 Protections
4.1 Thermostat Minimum OFF Time.

For thermostat cycles, the compressor can only cut in after a minimum period of 3 minutes from the
time it cuts off except during valve changeover sequences.

4.2 Compressor Random Restart

Should the main power cuts out and power resume, there are 2 options whereby will depend on if
memory backup option is selected:-
a) If memory backup option is not selected. Compressor can cut in immediately after power up again;
subject to thermostat cut in mode.

b) If memory backup option is selected. Compressor can cut in 0 – 64 seconds after power up again;
subject to. thermostat cut in mode.

4.3 Thermostat Minimum Run Time

For thermostat cycles, the compressor can only cut out after minimum 150 seconds of running in the
current mode. The compressor can be cut out at any time if the system is switched to other modes or
in any other protection sequences.

4.4 Compressor Overload Protection

There are two methods to detect the compressor overload; namely by the coil sensors and the
hardware overload (normally close) switch.

4.5 Coil Sensors Detection

This protection is only available in COOL, DRY, HEAT and AUTO modes.

11
In cooling cycle, when the Outdoor Coil temperature exceeds 68°C, both the compressor and outdoor
fan will stop operating. In heating cycle, when the Indoor Coil temperature exceeds 68°C, the
compressor, outdoor fan and 4WV will stop operating accordingly.

The indoor fan will continue operating as per hot keep.

The unit will auto reset if the temperature goes below 50°C. This is allowed once every power on
reset. If the unit is required to auto reset every time the overload occurs, please refer to the RGL
hardware selection.

If the temperature goes below the permissible limit, the overload protection can be reset manually by
triggering the ON/OFF.

4.6 Hardware Switch Detection

This is a normally close switch. It is connected in series with the power supply to the controller. Once
there is overload, the switch will open and power supply to controller will be cut off.

During the first cycle of thermostat on since power on reset, a counter is increased by one and a timer
starts to run. If the timer exceeds 3 minutes or the unit is turned off, the counter is reset to 0. During
the increment, if the counter is > 5, the unit will declare compressor overload protection. This fault is
manual resettable.

The counter is saved in the non-volatile memory. If memory backup option is not selected, the counter
is always set to 0 during power on reset. It is selectable thru RGL.

4.7 Outdoor fan speed control

Heating Cycle
The outdoor fan will cut off when the indoor coil temperature exceeds 55°C / 53ºC (Depends on
outdoor/indoor fan speed control option). The outdoor fan may resume when indoor coil temperature
is lower than 50°C.

The indoor fan speed will be forced to 1 speed higher than the user set speed when the indoor coil
temperature exceeds 53°C / 51ºC; i.e. LOW fan will be forced to MEDIUM fan while MEDIUM fan will
be forced to HIGH fan and there is no change if the user set speed is HIGH. It will resume at the user
set speed when indoor coil temperature is lower than 48°C.

Cooling Cycle
The outdoor fan will run whenever the compressor is cut in.

4.8 Indoor Anti freeze

This protection is only available in cooling cycle. The system will be in the Frost Prevention Mode if
the Indoor Coil Temp. reaches 1°C / 3ºC (depends on antifreeze option) and below for at least 1
minute AND compressor has been running for at least 10 minutes.
Upon confirmation, the compressor and the outdoor fan must be stopped. The compressor and the
outdoor fan can only be restarted when the Indoor Coil temperature reaches 10°C and above for at
least 1 minute.

4.10 Gas Leak (Outdoor unit abnormal)

This option is selected via resistor RGL.

The gas leak is declared if indoor coil temperature is > 25°C in cooling cycle or < 20°C in heating
cycle.

The system will check the gas leak mode if compressors run time of 30 minutes is achieved. If above
condition is met, the system will reconfirm the indoor coil temperature for another 5 minutes before
declaring the gas leak mode.

No gas leak checking during outdoor defrost. The compressor run timer will be reset.

5 OnTAC Activation
This feature is to force the compressor on for approximately 10 minutes irrespective of room
temperature and compressor minimum off time protection. Besides the compressor minimum off time,
other protections are still available. This feature is allowed to be activated once every power on reset
and is activated by pressing the emergency on/off button for more than 5 seconds.
To activate OnTac in cooling cycle, ensure the unit to off mode first. Then press the button for more
than 5 seconds.

To activate the OnTac in heating cycle, set the unit to cool mode first before pressing the button for
more than 5 seconds.

6 Hardware Selections
There are 2 resistors (Rxxx) used in the board to configure various board operations:-

6.1 RFAN
For AP model, this is used to configure board’s HOT KEEP specifications:-
OPEN - Multisplit (always use YA spec)
22k - C2 spec (Fan on, off below 18ºC).

13
7k5 - YA spec (Fan off).

6.2 RGL
This is used to enable or disable the Gas Leak and Compressor overload options:-
110k - Gas leak on, Compressor overload manual reset,
hardware overload detection off
22k - Gas leak on, Compressor overload auto reset, hardware overload
detection on
7k5 - No gas leak, Compressor overload manual reset,
hardware overload detection off
3k - No gas leak, Compressor overload auto reset,
hardware overload detection on

There are 3 diodes used in the board to configure various board operations:-

6.3 Offset temperature. (DOT)

This diode used to select set temperature offset option in heat mode.
Exist - No offset
Open - 2ºC is added to set temperature in heat mode.

6.4 Antifreeze 1ºC / 3ºC option (D1/3C)

This diode is used to select 1ºC / 3ºC threshold for cool mode antifreeze protection.
Exist - 1ºC
Open - 3ºC

6.5 Outdoor/Indoor fan speed control option (D55/53C)

This diode is used to select 55ºC/53ºC threshold for heating mode outdoor fan and indoor fan speed
control.
Exist - 55ºC outdoor fan off. 53ºC indoor fan forced higher speed.
Open - 53ºC outdoor fan off. 51ºC indoor fan forced higher speed.

7 Multi Spit Model

Most of the control algorithms for multi split model is similar to single split unless stated below:

7.1 There is no outdoor coil sensor for multi split model. If outdoor coil sensor is inserted, unit will
show error.

7.2 Since the outdoor sensor is not available, the overload protection only limited to heating cycle by
checking the indoor coil sensor.

7.3 No outdoor defrost cycle (Taken care by outdoor controller).

14
7.4 There is no gas leak detection.

7.5 Multi split Hot Start

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at user set fan speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature < 25°C, the indoor fan speed will stop. For fan always ON option,
then indoor fan will run low.
iii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses the 30°C mark, the indoor fan speed will be changed to low.

7.6 Multi split Hot Keep

Only one hot keep option which is fan off option:

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run at low speed.
iii) if indoor coil temperature < 30°C, the indoor fan will stop.

19
2.6 Indoor Fan Control

The indoor fan speeds are LO, MED, HIGH or AUTO FAN in COOL, HEAT and AUTO modes.

In FAN mode, only HI, MED and LO speeds are allowed.

2.7 Louver and Swing Control

The swing will run if indoor fan is on and vice versa.

If unit switches from off mode to on mode, the louver will stop at the last position when it goes from on
to off mode.

2.8 Water Pump Control

The water pump will on if compressor is on during cooling cycle. The pump will remain on for at least
5’ after the comp is off.

During mode change from cooling to non cooling mode, the pump will on for minimum 5’.

During defrost cycle, the pump will on and will on for another 5’ once the defrost cycle is terminated.

2.9 Water Level Switch Detection

This normally close switch is to detect faults in water pump system. It will confirm for 30” for switch
open and 60” for switch close.
Once switch is confirmed open, it will force compressor to cut off. The compressor is not allowed to
cut in. Error will be declared.

2.10 IONIZER Control

The IONIZER will be turned ON when indoor fan is running and it will be turned OFF when indoor fan
stop.

This function is set/reset by the wireless controller.

2.11 TURBO Function

TURBO function is available in COOL, HEAT and DRY modes only. The indoor fan will force to high
fan. After 20 minutes, this function will clear automatically, and the indoor fan speed will restore. Cold
start will be overridden when TURBO function is activated. If TURBO and SLEEP are activated at the
same time, the SLEEP mode timer will be reset, it will resume after TURBO function is cleared.

Compressor cut out will deactivate TURBO function.

3.4 Fan Mode

Only HI, MED and LO speeds are allowed.

The compressor and the outdoor fan will stop. Similarly, the 4-way valve will turn off.

For fan always ON option,
indoor fan will run low.
iii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses the 30°C mark, the indoor fan speed will be
changed to low. (either start from off, or change from higher speed)

23
3.5.1.2 Hot Keep

When the compressor cuts out, the unit is in hot keep mode. There are 4 options of Hot Keep:

Fan Always on option

For thermostat cycle cut offs, the following hot keep cycle will apply:
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses below 37°C, the indoor fan will run at low speed.

Fan on option

The start of heat mode, is defined as when:

a) the unit is just turned on from off with setting in Heat mode OR
b) the mode changes from non-heat to Heat mode OR
c) just after the end of a defrost cycle,

The hot keep cycle at the start of heat mode will be as follow :
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
i) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run low.
ii) if indoor coil temperature < 30°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Fan off option

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run at low speed.
iii) if indoor coil temperature < 30°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Fan low cycle on & off option

The low fan will cut in for 30 seconds and subsequently off for 120 seconds. These cycles of on and
off will repeat.

This mode will only change to Heat mode if:-

i) Tr <= Ts mode - 3.5°C AND

ii) the compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.

24
If the present Auto mode is heat, its mode set temperature is 1.5°C below the user Set Temperature.
This mode will only change to Cool mode if:-

i) Tr > Ts mode + 3.0°C AND

ii) the compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.

Defrost mode will be activated if the compressor run time is:

i) 30 mins to 1 hour below 3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-8°C for more than
3 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then the defrost mode can be started.

ii) 1 hour to 2 hours below +3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-4°C for more
than 3 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then the defrost mode can be started.

25
iii) more than 2 hours below +3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-2°C for more
than 3 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then the defrost mode can be started.
If unit in outdoor fan forced off mode, the defrost will not be allowed to be declared.

3.7.1 Defrost cycle

In the defrost cycle, the HEAT LED will blink only in SLM3.

Should the main power cuts out and power resume, there are 2 options whereby will depend on if
memory backup option is selected:-

a) If memory backup option is not selected. Compressor can cut in immediately after power up again;
subject to thermostat cut in mode.

b) If memory backup option is selected. Compressor can cut in 0 – 64 seconds after power up again;

26
4.4 Compressor Overload Protection

There are two methods to detect the compressor overload; namely by the coil sensors and the
hardware overload (normally close) switch.

4.5 Coil Sensors Detection

This protection is only available in COOL, DRY, HEAT and AUTO modes.

LOW fan will be forced to medium fan while medium fan will be
forced to HIGH fan and there is no change if the user set speed is HIGH. It will resume at the user set
speed when indoor coil temperature is lower than 48°C.

Cooling Cycle
The outdoor fan will run whenever the compressor is cut in.

27

The gas leak is declared if indoor coil temperature is > 25°C in cooling cycle or < 20°C in heating
cycle.
The system will check the gas leak mode if compressor run time of 30 minutes is achieved. If above
condition is met, the system will reconfirm the indoor coil temperature for another 5 minutes before
declaring the gas leak mode.
No gas leak checking during outdoor defrost. The compressor run timer will be reset.

28

7 Multi Split Model

Most of the control algorithms for multi split model is similar to single split unless stated below:

7.1 There is no outdoor coil sensor for multi split model. If outdoor coil sensor is inserted, unit will
show error.

7.2 Since the outdoor sensor is not available, the overload protection only limited to heating cycle by
checking the indoor coil sensor.

7.3 No outdoor defrost cycle (Taken care by outdoor controller).

7.4 There is no gas leak detection.

7.5 Multi split Hot Start

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at user set fan speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature < 25°C, the indoor fan speed will stop.
iii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses the 30°C mark, the indoor fan speed will be
changed to low.

7.6 Multi split Hot Keep

Only one hot keep selection which is fan off option:

2.2 Power Up Settings

During power up, the system can be configured to memorize the settings prior to power down. This is
done by shorting the 2 way straight header J_LST. The settings that are memorized are:-

a) Mode & On/Off status

b) Set Temperature
c) Fan Speed
d) Key Lock (for wired control)

These data or settings are saving in non-volatile memory.

The system will save the updated settings into the memory 10 seconds after changes are confirmed.
However, it will take 3 seconds to update the memory if the unit changes from on to off state.

32
If the J_LST is not shorted or memory corrupted, the default settings are
a) Unit : OFF,
b) Mode : COOL,
c) Set Temp. : 24°C,
d) Indoor fan speed: HIGH
e) SWING OFF

2.3 Unit ON/OFF

There are 2 ways to turn on or off the system:

i) via ON/OFF triggering
ii) via real-time ON/OFF timer

2.3.1 ON/OFF triggering

ON/OFF triggering can be achieved by pressing the emergency ON/OFF button or the LCD remote
controller ON/OFF button.

When the emergency ON/OFF button is pressed, the system mode setting will rotate in the following
sequence:-

MODEL SEQUENCE

AP ---------- > COOL > HEAT > OFF > ------------

EC --------------->COOL > OFF >-------------------

The corresponding LEDs will also follow suit.

Pressing the wired controller ON/OFF button will toggle the system status either from ON to OFF or
from OFF to ON.

2.5 Sleep Function

This function will increase or decrease the set temperature with time. The COOL and HEAT mode
SLEEP profile is as follows:

33
Mode Algorithm
Cool

Heat

The SLEEP function is only available for COOL, HEAT and AUTO modes. Changing to other modes
will inhibit the SLEEP function and the timer will be reset.

Pressing the emergency ON/OFF will deactivate and clear the sleep function.

This function is set/reset by the wired controller.

2.6 Indoor Fan Control

Only one fan speed is available for indoor fan.

2.7 Heat Mode Offset 2°C Option

If DOT is open, the HEAT mode set temperature will be added by 2°C. This option is not applicable in
AUTO HEAT mode.
3 Operating Modes

The system mode is set by the wired control. Mode changes respond 2 seconds after data reception.

34
3 Operating Mode
3.1 Cold Start

When the unit restarts 2 hours after it has stopped or during power-on-reset start, it is considered a
cold start. This feature is not available in sleep mode.

3.2 Cool Mode

In Cool mode, the compressor will be cut in if the Tr - Ts > 0.5°C and the compressor will be cut out if
the Tr < Ts - 1.0°C, subject to timing protections.

3.3 Fan Mode

Only one speed is allowed in the fan mode. The compressor and the outdoor fan will stop. Similarly,
the 4-way valve will turn off.

3.4 Heat Mode

The model of heat mode is namely auto heatpump (AP).

3.4.1 Heat Pump Model

The compressor will be cut in if the Tr < Ts+1 and it will be cut out if Tr - Ts > 3.5°C, subject to timing
protections.
If DOT is open, the HEAT mode set temperature will be added by 2°C.

3.4.1.1 Hot Start

During the cut in cycle, the indoor fan speed will modulate according to the indoor coil temperature:

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature < 18°C, the indoor fan speed will stop.
iii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses the 30°C mark, the indoor fan speed will run.

3.4.1.2 Hot Keep

When the compressor cuts out, the unit is in hot keep mode. There are 4 options of Hot Keep:
Fan Always on option
For thermostat cycle cut offs, the following hot keep cycle will apply:
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses below 37°C, the indoor fan will run.

35
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run.
i) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run.
ii) if indoor coil temperature < 33°C, the indoor fan will stop.

For thermostat cycle cut offs, the following hot keep cycle will apply:
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run.
iii) if indoor coil temperature < 18°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Fan off option

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run.
iii) if indoor coil temperature < 33°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Fan low cycle on & off option

The fan will cut in for 30 seconds and subsequently off for 120 seconds. These cycle of on and off will
repeat.

3.4.1.3 4-way valve switching

To run heat pump, the 4-way valve must turn ON. Upon return to a non-heat pump mode, the 4-way
must turn OFF. The 4-way valve can only be changed 55+/- 5 seconds after the compressor has been
cut out. Then the compressor may be cut in 4 seconds later.

3.4.1.4 Auxiliary Heater

This option is available for heatpump model only. It operates during heatpump thermostat cut in cycle
and is subjected to the following conditions:-

a) It can only cut in after the indoor fan has cut in for at least 30 seconds.
b) It must cut out for at least 30 seconds before the indoor fan can cut off.
c) It must cut out if room temperature > 25°C. It is allowed to cut in if room temperature < 22.5°C.
d) It must cut out if indoor coil temperature > 55°C. It is allowed to cut in if indoor coil temperature
< 48°C.
e) During cold start, it is allowed to cut in if outdoor coil temperature < 5°C.
f) It will cut in if room temperature is 3.5°C below set temperature and it will cut out if room
temperature is 1.0°C below set temperature.
g) It is allowed to cut in during heatpump thermostat cut in cycle.
For case (b), the auxiliary heater & indoor fan will cut out immediately during off mode & outdoor
defrost cycle.

3.5 Auto Mode

Under AUTO mode, the mode can be selected automatically between Heat and Cool mode,
depending on the room temperature and Set Temperature. There is no cold start in Auto mode.

If the present Auto mode is Cool, its mode Set Temperature is the same as the user Set Temperature.
This mode will only change to Heat mode if:-

i) Tr <= Ts mode - 3.5°C AND

ii) The compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.

36
If the present Auto mode is heat, its mode set temperature is 1.5°C below the user Set Temperature.
This mode will only change to Cool mode if:-

i) Tr > Ts mode + 3.0°C AND

ii) The compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.

Cool and Heat options working under Auto mode are the same as those working under non-Auto
mode.

3.6 Defrost Mode

A defrost timer will start counting when the outdoor heat exchange thermistor is below +3°C.
Upon crossing over +5°C to a higher temperature for more than 150 seconds, the timer will be reset.
The temperature sensing could only be done when the compressor run time is more than 2 minutes.

than 3 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then the defrost mode can be started.

If unit in outdoor fan forced off mode, the defrost will not be allowed to be declared.

3.6.1 Defrost cycle

In the defrost cycle, the HEAT LED will blink only in SLM3.
The defrost cycles is:-
When defrost starts, the indoor fan, auxiliary heater, outdoor fan & 4-way valve will cut off while the
compressor remains running.

3.7 Off mode

When the unit is off, no indication will be provided. All relays will be turned off immediately after the
ON/OFF triggering except the 4-way valve which is subjected to the 55 +/- 5 seconds protection
where applicable.

4 Protections
4.1 Thermostat Minimum OFF Time.

For thermostat cycles, the compressor can only cut in after a minimum period of 3 minutes from the
time it cuts off except during valve changeover sequences.

4.2 Compressor Random Restart

Should the main power cuts out and power resume, there are 2 option whereby will depend on if
memory backup option is selected:-

a) If memory backup option is not selected. Compressor can cut in immediately after power up again;
subject to thermostat cut in mode.

b) If memory backup option is selected. Compressor can cut in 0 – 64 seconds after power up again;
subject to. thermostat cut in mode.

4.3 Thermostat Minimum Run Time

For thermostat cycles, the compressor can only cut out after minimum 150 seconds of running in the
current mode. The compressor can be cut out at any time if the system is switched to other modes or
in any other protection sequences.

38
4.4 Compressor Overload Protection

There are two methods to detect the compressor overload; namely by the coil sensors and the
hardware overload (normally close) switch.

4.5 Coil Sensors Detection

This protection is only available in COOL, HEAT and AUTO modes.

In cooling cycle, when the Outdoor Coil temperature exceeds 75°C, both the compressor and outdoor
fan will stop operating. In heating cycle, when the Indoor Coil temperature exceeds 75°C, the
compressor, outdoor fan and 4WV will stop operating accordingly.

The indoor fan will continue operating as per hot keep.

The unit will auto reset if the temperature goes below 50°C. This is allowed once every power on
reset.

4.7 Outdoor fan speed control

Heating Cycle
The outdoor fan will cut off when the indoor coil temperature exceeds 55°C/ 53ºC (Depends on
outdoor/indoor fan speed control option). The outdoor fan may resume when indoor coil temperature
is lower than 50°C.

The indoor fan speed will be forced to 1 speed higher than the user set speed when the indoor coil
temperature exceeds 53°C/ 51ºC; i.e.

39
Upon confirmation, the compressor and the outdoor fan must be stopped. The compressor and the
outdoor fan can only be restarted when the Indoor Coil temperature reaches 10°C and above for at
least 1 minute.

The system will power up on or off base on last state where the main supply was cut off for models
where backup memory is enabled (JLST short) and backup data valid.
i) With backup memory valid, power up settings will follow settings in the backup memory

Whereas the system will always power up in off mode when backup memory is disabled or backup
data corrupted (JLST open)
ii) Without backup memory (JLST open) or backup memory data corrupted, the power up settings will
follow last settings on the LCD panel in condition that the battery on the LCD panel is functioning. In
case where the backup battery on the LCD panel is weak, the power up setting will be 25ºC, Cool
mode.
*SQ1.0 used the JH1 jumper for power up settings.

2.8 Unit On/Off

There are 2 ways to turn on or off the system:

i) via On/Off triggering on the LCD panel

ii) via 7 days timer

2.8.1 On/Off Triggering

On/Off triggering can be achieved by pressing On/Off key on the wired controller. Pressing the On/Off
will toggle the system status either from On to Off or from Off to On.

2.8.2 7 Days Programmable Timer

There are two 7 days programmable timers namely On Timer and Off Timer. This timer can be
overridden by the On/Off pressing.

2.8.3 Off mode

When the unit is off, the on/off LED on the LCD panel will be off. All relays will be turned off
immediately after the ON/OFF triggering except the 4-way valves, and indoor fan which are subjected
to protection where applicable.

*If available & applicable

The compressors will be turned on one by one depending on the on/off conditions as shown above.
There is a 15s interval (stage timer) between 2 compressor’s turn on sequence. When a compressor
is turned on its running time is recorded on its run time counter. When it is off the counter is stop.

3.3.2 Balance Loading

When a compressor needs to be on, the controller will turn on the compressor with the shortest
accumulated run time provided its 3 minutes minimum off time has lapsed. Otherwise the system will
apply the same principle to the subsequent compressor. Similarly, the compressor with the longest
accumulated run time will be the first one to be cut off. This is to load all the compressors evenly over
long run period.

(Up to 3 compressor model only)

3.5.2 Hot Start

When at least 1 compressor cuts in, the indoor fan will run according to indoor coil temperature:

i) if any of the indoor coil temperature >= 30°C, the indoor fan will run.
ii) if all the indoor coil temperature <= 15°C, the indoor fan speed will stop.

However, when the auxiliary heater is running, indoor fan always run.

3.5.3 Hot Keep

When all the compressors cut out or compressors not running, the indoor fan will run according to
indoor coil temperature:

i) if any of the indoor coil temperature >= 40°C, the indoor fan will run.

49
ii) if all the indoor coil temperature <= 15°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Hot keep can be enable or disable via SW6. When fan off is selected, indoor fan will stop when all
compressors cut off.

3.5.4 Auxiliary Electric Heater

Electric heater can be enabled or disabled by user on the LCD panel using heater button. For model
with 1 electric heater, when heater button is pressed the display on LCD will be:

“HEATER 1” -> “ ” -> “HEATER 1” ->...

For model with 2 electric heater, the display would be:

“HEATER 1” ->”HEATER 1 2” -> “” ->”HEATER 1” ->...

The Electric Heater 1 will be turned on subjects to following conditions:

a) Heater 1 is enabled AND

b) Tr<=22.5°C AND
c) All indoor coil temperature is <=50°C AND
d) 40 seconds after the indoor fan has cut in AND
e) Tr<=temperature where last available comp turns on*-1.5ºC. (Depends on number of
compressors & differential temperature, see Table 4.1)
f) All the available compressor has been turned on (in case any compressors cannot be turned on
due to protection, then heater will be turned on after the last compressor that can be turned on)

The Electric Heater 2 will be turned on subjects to following conditions:

a) After 15s heater 1 on
b) Heater 1 2 is enabled AND
c) Tr<22.5°C AND
d) All indoor coil temperature is <=50°C AND
e) 40 seconds after the indoor fan has cut in AND
f) Tr<=temperature where last available comp turns on*-2.5ºC. (See Table 4.1)
g) All the available compressor has been turned on (in case any compressors cannot be turned on
due to protection, then heater will be turned on after the last compressor that can be turned on.)

Heater 2 will cut out when:

a) Heater 2 is disabled OR
b) Tr>=temperature where last available comp turns on-1.5ºC OR
c) Tr>=25°C OR
d) any of the indoor coil temperature is >=55°C

Heater 1 will cut out when:

a) Heater 1 2 is disabled OR
b) Tr>=temperature where last available comp turns on OR
c) Tr>=25°C OR
d) any of the indoor coil temperature is >=55°C

Indoor fan will be forced on for 40 seconds before heater turns on and forced to remain on 40
seconds after all heaters off.

3.5.5 4-Way Valve Changing

To run heatpump, all the 4-way valves will be ON. Upon return to non-heat pump mode, all the 4-way
valves will be turned off. A 4-way valve can only be changed 55+/- 5 seconds after the compressor
has been cut out, then the compressor may be cut in 4 seconds later. When the 4-way valve has been
changed and the compressor has not been cut in, the 4-way valve may still be changed again
immediately.

3.6 Auto Mode

In Auto mode, operating mode will be selected automatically between Heat and Cool mode,
depending on the Room Temperature and Set Temperature.

If present Auto mode is Cool, this mode will only change to Heat mode if:

i) Tr<=Ts-2.5°C AND
ii) all the compressors have cut out for at least 15 minutes.

If the present Auto mode is heat, this mode will only change to Cool mode if

i) Tr>=Ts+2.5°C AND
ii) all the compressors (or heaters) have cut out for at least 15 minutes.

Cool and Heat options working under Auto mode are the same as those working under non-Auto
mode. Compressor on/off condition (Heatpump Model) is shown as below.

52
4 Protections
4.1 5 minutes Minimum Run Time for Compressor

For thermostat cycles, a compressor can only cut out after running for 5 minutes in the current mode.
The compressor can be cut out at any time if the system is switched to other modes.

4.2 3 Minutes Minimum Off Time for Compressor

For thermostat cycles, a compressor can only cut in after 3 minutes from the time it cuts off except
during 4-way valve changeover sequences where it can cut in 5 seconds after 4-way valve
changeover.

4.3 Compressor High Pressure Protection

If any of the compressors has high pressure trip, error code will be indicated on LCD. The compressor
is not allowed to cut in for 3 minutes (error code will be shown for 3 minutes). If the compressor has
high pressure trip for 3 times in 30 minutes, it cannot be restarted automatically (Can be reset by
triggering the on/off button).

4.4 Compressor High Temperature Protection

a) Cool and Auto Cool modes

When the Outdoor Coil temperature for a particular compressor exceeds 68°C, the compressor and
its outdoor fan will stop operating. Other compressors will perform thermostat cycle as usual. The
indoor fan will still continue to run even if all the compressors are cut off due to high temperature
protection.

b) Heat and Auto Heat mode

When the Indoor Coil temperature for a particular compressor exceeds 59ºC, the outdoor fan will stop.
When Indoor coil temperature exceeds 68°C, the compressor and its outdoor fan will stop. Other
compressors will perform thermostat cycle as usual. The indoor fan will still continue to run but
subjected to hot keep condition, if all the compressors are cut off due to high temperature protection.
When any compressor for a particular model cuts off due to high temperature, and there is at least
one compressor is running as usual, the compressor that cut off can be turned on when its
temperature falls below 55°C. Outdoor fan can be turned on when temperature falls below 50ºC.

If all the available compressors were cut off due to high temperature protection, the system can only
be reset manually by triggering the ON/OFF button. If the system is not reset, the compressors cannot
restart.

4.5 Compressor Trip / Low Refrigerant Warning

A compressor is said to be tripped or low refrigerant if the conditions below suspected:

Cool and Auto Cool modes

i) After minimum run time of 5 minutes AND
ii) T -T <=3ºC (i.e. indoor coil not cold enough)
r incoil

53
Heat and Auto Heat modes
i) After minimum run time of 5 minutes AND
ii) T -T <=3ºC (i.e. indoor coil not hot enough)
incoil r

Once the error confirmed, the compressor number on LCD panel will be blinking, error code will be
shown and LED blinks. However the compressor is not stopped. Once the error is cleared, the LCD
display resumes as normal.

4.6 Indoor Antifreeze Protection

This protection is only available in Cool modes. A compressor will enter antifreeze mode if its indoor
coil temperature reaches 1°C and below for at least 1 minute after the compressor has run for at least
10 minutes.

Upon confirmation, the compressor and the outdoor fan must be stopped. Other compressors will run
as usual. The compressor and its outdoor fan can only be restarted when,

i) after a minimum stop time of 3 minutes OR

ii) the indoor coil temperature reaches 12°C and above for at least 1 minute OR
iii) another mode of operation is selected

4.7 Outdoor Defrost

Defrost mode can only be entered from heat mode (not selectable by user). A defrost monitoring timer
will start counting when any of the outdoor coil temperature is below +3°C.

This timer will reset if any of the following occurs:

i) Upon crossing over +3°C to a higher temperature for more than 150 seconds
ii) Change mode
iii) Unit on/off by press on/off button of panel or unit restart
iv) Defrost terminated when defrost termination conditions are met

This temperature sensing could only be done when the compressor run time is more than 2 minutes
(except for defrost termination).

4.7.1 Conventional Defrost Condition

The likelihood of ice frosting at the outdoor coil is characterized by 3 gradients of outdoor
temperature shown in below:

54
To
°C

+3
+2 C

30' 2 hrs
0
0 1 hr time
-2
B
-4

-6 A

-8 defrost mode if m ore

than 5 minutes

Defrost condition will be met if the defrost monitoring timer is:

i) 30 mins to 1 hour from +3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-8°C for more than
2 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then defrost mode can be started.

ii) 1 hour to 2 hours from +3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-4°C for more than
2 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then defrost mode can be started.

iii) more than 2 hours from +3°C reference point, if the outdoor coil temperature is <=-2°C for more
than 2 minutes (provided the compressor is on), then defrost mode can be started.

4.7.2 Alternative Defrost cycle

Only ONE compressor can enter defrost mode at one time. If more that 2 compressors fulfill defrost
condition, the compressor with maximum accumulated run time will enter defrost cycle.

Pre Defrost Cycle

When one compressor is confirmed to run defrost cycle, one compressor will turn on for 2 minutes
before the specific compressor enters defrost cycle. If no compressor can be turned on in 2 minute,
defrost cycle will still running. If no other compressor run heat mode & one compressor running
defrost, indoor fan will turn off irrespective of hot keep & hot start conditions, except when heater is
on.

Defrost Cycle
After 2 minutes pre defrost cycle, depends on defrost option set by SW8, for compressor on option,
outdoor fan & 4-way valve will cut off and the compressor runs defrost cycle.
For compressor off option, the compressor and its outdoor fan will be cut out, and then 55 seconds
later its 4-way valve switches OFF. Then 4 seconds later the compressor will turn on with its outdoor
fan off.
The other compressors will perform thermostat cycle operation as usual with both indoor and outdoor

55
fans on.
The compressor that runs defrost cycle is consider running cool cycle, therefore one compressor will
be forced on in heat cycle (if available) to cancel the cooling effect. For example if current Tr-Ts
condition requires 1 compressor to run heat mode, then the situation is: 1 compressor runs defrost
cycle (cool), 2 compressors run heat cycle and so on.

Terminate Defrost Cycle

The compressor then runs with its outdoor fan off until temperature of its outdoor coil exceeds +10°C
or a minimum of 10 minutes compressor run time is achieved (if compressor that runs defrost trip, its
defrost cycle ends), after that the compressor will be stopped, and the defrost cycle is completed.
Then 55seconds later 4-way valve switches on and outdoor fan turn on where the Heat cycle can
continue to run (compressor can cut in after 20 seconds).

C2.4 option: At the end of the defrost cycle, the compressor cuts out. Then 4-way valve switches on
15 +/- 5 seconds later. The compressor can cut in 20 seconds time.

4.8 Thermistor Error

The poor contact conditions of the room, indoor coil & outdoor coil thermistors are indicated via the
wired control panel using error code on the LCD. For room, indoor coil and outdoor coil sensors, the
error is indicated if any of the sensors is open or close.

Sensor Error Conditions

i) Indoor Coil <-44°C for > 2 secs OR
>76°C for > 2 secs OR
open OR close
ii) Outdoor Coil <-44°C for > 2 secs OR
>76°C for > 2 secs OR
open OR close
iii) Room <-33°C OR
>50°C OR
open OR close

When either of the above faults is confirmed, the system will run as normal. The compressor and
outdoor fan related to the errorneous sensor cannot be turned on. If either of the above faults is
confirmed rectified, the respective error code is cleared.

4.9 Compressor Status Display

4.9.1 Display on LCD Panel

Compressor on/off/fault
Compressor on/off and error will be shown in the LCD display. When a compressor is on, “COMP N”
(N=compressor number) is shown in the LCD. When it is off, the text disappeared. When a
compressor is fault (high temperature trip/high pressure trip), the “N” will blink.

Defrost
When a compressor performs defrost cycle, the LCD will show “DEFROST N”. (N=compressor
number).

4.9.2 Error Code

Error code is displayed on the LCD panel. When system on and error code is shown, the on/off LED
on the LCD panel will blink. When system off, error code is still display for thermistor error but the

56
on/off LED will be off.

Pressing the remote control ON/OFF will toggle the system status either from ON to OFF or from OFF
to ON.

4.1.3 Real Time ON/OFF timer

When the real time ON timer set time matches the internal real time clock, the unit will be switched on.
Similarly, when the OFF time matches the real time clock, the unit is switched off .The timer settings
are retained so that similar switching can occur 24 hours later.
This timer will be reset if the emergency ON/OFF switch is pressed.

4.2 Sleep function

This function will increase or decrease the set temperature with time. The COOL and HEAT mode
SLEEP profile is as follows:

Mode Algorithm
Cool

Heat

The SLEEP option is only available for system at COOL and HEAT modes. Changing to other modes
will inhibit the SLEEP option and the timer will be reset.
Pressing the emergency ON/OFF will reset the sleep timer.

61
This option is set/reset by on the LCD remote controller.

4.3 Air louver and air swing

If unit change from off mode to on mode, the flap will stop at the last position when it go from on to off
mode.

4.4 Fan Priority Setting

This option is applied to Cool, Heat and Auto mode (apply only during thermostat off cycle).
Two options to set the fan speed during thermostat off cycle via jumper FAN_PRIO:

Jumper FAN_PRIO
OFF (open) - Fan stop when thermostat cuts off
ON (short) - User set speed or low fan if auto fan mode is selected

If Fan mode is selected, this setting is ignored, i.e. the fan continues to on.
Thermostat off cycle refers to state when valve is closed. This feature is not valid during OFF mode
and Load-shed in which fan is always off. For valve-less models, this setting is invalid.

4.5 Bar Heat Mode Setting

This option is to bar the user form using Heat mode for this chilled water. This option can be set via
jumper HEAT:

OFF (open) - Bar Heat mode

ON (short) - Heat mode allow to use

When bar heat is set, there will be no Auto mode (for M3 model)

4.6 ON/OFF and Heat/Cool output dry contact

When the system is in ON mode, ON/OFF contact will be shorted. Else, it will remain OPEN. When
the system is in HEAT mode, Heat/Cool contact will be shorted. If the system is in COOL mode, the
contact will be OPEN.

4.7 Post Heater Fan Retention

If the heater is used, the fan may not cut off until 25 seconds after the heater has cut off.

4.8 Preprogrammed Anti Freeze Set point

In order to protect room from freezing, the set point could be fixed at 10°C. Disregard whether the unit
is in OFF mode, when the room temperature drops to below 7.25°C, thermostat** will cut in and fan

speed is forced to Low. When room temperature rises back to 10°C and above, thermostat will cut out
and fan speed will follow jumper FAN_PRIO setting. The Anti-Freeze operation will be activated only if
the dry contact is closed for more than 5 seconds. If the dry contact is opened for more than 5
seconds, antifreeze operation is deactivated. Anti Freeze has the highest priority among all unit
operations.

4.9 Preprogrammed Unoccupied Set points

The fan coil unit can be set to run at fixed set point under either Cool or Heat mode. If the fan coil unit
is running in Cool mode, the fixed set point is 30°C. If the fan coil unit is running in Heat mode, the
fixed set point is 14°C.

This option is activated via a dry contact. If the dry contact is closed for more than 5 seconds, the
Unoccupied mode is activated. If the dry contact is opened for more than 5 seconds, Occupied mode
is activated. When Timer On is active, system goes back to Occupied mode for 2 hours. Then system
will go back to Unoccupied mode. The dry contact connection points can be connected in series with
other fan coil unit ( FCU ) boards. If the dry contact is closed, Unoccupied mode will be activated on
all the fan coil units which are connected in parallel, i.e.: -

Global Unoccupied operation could also be activated via the network communication bus line by the
master controller with or without the above connection.

63
4.10 Load Shedding

During load shedding, the fan, the valve and the heater will be cut out. However, this mode can be
override by antifreeze mode.
This option can be activated via a dry contact. If the dry contact is closed for more than 5 seconds,
load shedding mode is activated. If the dry contact is opened for more than 5 seconds, load shedding
is deactivated.

After the load shedding is deactivated, the system will maintain the settings prior load shedding.
Each dry contact point, POINT 1, of all the FCU boards must be connected to the same wire,
designated as W1. Each dry contact point, POINT 2, of all the FCU boards, must be connected to the
same wire, designated as W2. Both W1 and W2 will then connected to a switch.
The dry contact connection points can be connected in parallel with other fan coil unit ( FCU ) boards.
If the dry contact is closed, load shedding mode will be activated on all the fan coil units which are
connected in series, i.e.: -

W2.0(1) W2.0(2) W2.0(n)

4.11 Thermostat Panel Override

User can change the unoccupied mode to Occupied mode by changing the temperature set points
(via wired controller or handset). However, this override can only last for 2 hours after the last change
of the set points at the panel.

4.12 Temperature Set points range

For Heat/Cool common set point model, the operating temperature range is 16 °C to 30 °C, both
inclusive. Temperature setting is allowed in COOL, DRY, and HEAT modes.

4.13 Fan Speed

Three manual fan speed are available, i.e. high, medium and low fan speeds. In auto fan speed, the
fan speed will run depending on the sensed room or return air temperature and the set point. For
valve less configuration, there will be a super low fan speed control (5 minutes on & 5 minutes off).

64
4.14 Water pump

The water pump will on if the water valve is on during cooling cycle or when the float switch contact is
opened. The pump will remain on for at least 5’ after the water valve is off.

During mode change from cooling to non cooling mode, the pump will on for minimum 5’.

4.15 Water Level Switch (Float Switch)

This normally close switch is to detect faults in water pump system. It will confirm for 30” for switch
open and 60” for switch close.

Once switch is confirmed open, it will force the water valve to cut off. If this switch opens for about 5
minutes continuously, then an error indicator will be shown. If the switch is closed, the water valve is
allowed to cut in. This is only applying to cooling cycle only.

4.16 2 Pipe Water Temperature Sensing

Pipe water temperature sensing is ONLY valid for 2 pipe system with or without auxiliary heater.
Additional thermistor shall be used for boiler pipe water temperature sensing for 4 pipe system.

4.16.1 With water valve

During: -

a) Power on reset and unit is turned on

or b) Mode change
or c) Unit recover from faults

The water valve and indoor fan at set fan speed will be forced to cut in for at least 2 minutes
irrespective of thermostat cycle. If AUTO fan is selected, it will run low fan. At 2 minute intervals, the
system will repeat the checking. Auxiliary heater will not be used.

Room temp will be updated every 30 seconds.

Pipe water temperature (Tc) will be checked every 1 second.

AP Auto > Cool > Dry > Fan > Heat >
EC Cool > Dry > Fan >

2.3 Power Up Settings

During power up, the system can be configured to memorize the settings prior to power down. This is
done by shorting the 2 way straight header J_LST. The settings that are memorized are:-

a) Mode & On/Off status

b) Set Temperature
c) Fan Speed
d) DC swing
e) AC swing
f) Flap stop coordinate ( for DC swing off mode)
g) Key Lock ( for Wired control )

These data or settings are save in non-volatile memory.

The system will save the updated settings into the memory 10 seconds after changes are confirmed.
However, it will take 3 seconds to update the memory if the unit changes from on to off state.

If the swing mode is off, the flap will stop at the last stop position prior it is power down.

If the J_LST is not shorted, the default settings are

a) Unit : OFF,
b) Mode : COOL,
c) Set Temp. : 24°C,
d) Indoor fan speed : HIGH
e) SWING OFF

77
2.4 Unit ON/OFF

There are 2 ways to turn on or off the system:

i) via ON/OFF triggering
ii) via real-time ON/OFF timer

2.4.1 ON/OFF triggering

ON/OFF triggering can be achieved by pressing the emergency ON/OFF button or the LCD remote
controller ON/OFF button. In doing so, the DELAY timer will be reset.

When the emergency ON/OFF button is pressed, the system mode setting will rotate in the following
sequence:-

MODEL SEQUENCE
AP ---------- > COOL > HEAT > OFF > ------------
EC --------------->COOL > OFF >-------------------

The corresponding LEDs will also follow suit.

Pressing the wired/wireless controller ON/OFF button will toggle the system status either from ON to
OFF or from OFF to ON.

2.4.2 Real Time ON/OFF timer

When the real time ON timer set time matches the internal real time clock, the unit will be switched on.
Similarly, when the OFF time matches the real time clock, the unit is switched off. The timer settings
are retained so that similar switching can occur 24 hours later.

These timers will be deactivated if the emergency ON/OFF switch is pressed.

2.5 Temperature Range and Settings

The operating temperature range is 16 °C to 30 °C (60°F to 86°F), both inclusive. Temperature setting
is allowed in COOL, DRY, HEAT and AUTO modes.

2.6 Sleep Function

This function will increase or decrease the set temperature with time. The COOL and HEAT mode
SLEEP profile is as follows:-

78

2.7 Louver and AC Swing Control

In ac swing option, the swing will run if indoor fan is on and vice versa.

In the air louver option, the stepper motor will only run when the indoor fan runs. The louver will be set
at the maximum closing position when the unit is turned off. The swing angles of all operating modes
(when swing option is activated) are as follow:

79
If unit switches from off mode to on mode, the louver will stop at the last position when it go from on to
off mode.

2.8 Water Pump Control

The water pumps will on if any compressor is on during cooling cycle. The pump will remain on for at
least 5’ after both of the compressor is off.

During mode change from cooling to non cooling mode, the pump will on for minimum 5’.

During defrost cycle, the pump will on and will on for another 5’ once the defrost cycle is terminated.

2.9 Water Level Switch Detection

This normally close switch is to detect faults in water pump systems. It will confirm for 30” for switch
open and 60” for switch close.

Once switch is confirmed open, it will force compressor to cut off. Then, the error will be showed.

2.10 TURBO Function

TURBO function is available in COOL, HEAT and DRY modes only. When TURBO function is set,
The indoor fan will force to HIGH fan. After 20 minutes, this function will clear automatically. Cold start
will be overrode when TURBO function is activated. If TURBO and SLEEP are activated at the same
time, the SLEEP mode timer will be reset, it will resume after TURBO function is cleared.

Compressor cut out will deactivate TURBO function.

2.11 Heat Mode Offset 2°C Option

If DOT is open, the HEAT mode set temperature will be added by 2°C. This option is not applicable in
AUTO HEAT mode.

3 Operating Modes
The system mode is set by the wired/wireless control. The actual mode will be shown on the mode
LEDs. Mode changes respond 2 seconds after data reception.

3.1 Cold Start

When the unit restarts 2 hours after it has stopped or during power-on-reset start, it is considered a
cold start. This feature is not available in sleep mode.

80
3.2 Cool Mode

3.2.1 Cool Mode for Tandem Water Source system

In Cool mode, the asymmetrical compressors will be cut in or cut off based on the diagram as below,
subject to timing protections.

For manual speed, the indoor fan will run as per user set speed. In AUTO FAN speed, the indoor fan
speed will run as follows:

3.2.2 Cool modes for Single Compressor Water Source and DX systems

In Cool mode, the compressor will be cut in if the Tr - Ts > 0.5°C and the compressor will be cut out if
the Tr < Ts - 1.0°C, subject to timing protections.

In this mode, the indoor fan is always running. For manual speed, the indoor fan will run as per user
set speed. In AUTO FAN speed, the indoor fan speed will run as follows:

TANDEM water source system.

The sequence for the various zones are as shown:

Only HI, MED and LO speeds are allowed.

The compressor will stop. Similarly, the 4-way valve will turn off.

83
3.5 Heat Mode

There is a model of heat mode, namely auto heatpump (AP).

3.5.1.1 Heat Pump Model for TANDEM Water Source system

The compressor will be cut in and out condition is shown below:

For manual speed, the indoor fan will run as per user set speed. In AUTO FAN speed, the indoor fan
speed will run as follows:

3.5.1.2 Heat Pump Model for Single Compressor and DX systems

The compressor will be cut in if the Tr < Ts+1 ºC and the compressor will be cut out if the Tr-
Ts>3.5ºC, subject to timing protections.

For manual speed, the indoor fan will run as per user set speed. AUTO FAN speed condition is the
same as below:

These fan speeds in 3 systems are subjected to following Hot Start and Hot keep features:

3.5.2.1 Hot Start

During the cut in cycle, the indoor fan speed will modulate according to the indoor coil temperature:

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at user set fan speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature < 18°C, the indoor fan speed will stop. For Fan Always On option,
then indoor fan will run low.
iii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses the 30°C mark, the indoor fan speed will be changed
to low. (either start from off, or change from higher speed)

3.5.2.2 Hot Keep

When the compressor cuts out, the unit is in hot keep mode. There are 3 options of Hot Keep:

Fan on option

The start of heat mode, is defined as when:

a) the unit is just turned on from off with setting in Heat mode OR
b) the mode changes from non-heat to Heat mode OR
c) just after the end of a defrost cycle,
The hot keep cycle at the start of heat mode will be as follow:
i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
i) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run low.
ii) if indoor coil temperature < 30°C, the indoor fan will stop.

85
Fan off option

i) if the indoor coil temperature > 40°C, the indoor fan will run at set speed.
ii) if the indoor coil temperature crosses 37°C, the indoor fan will run at low speed.
iii) if indoor coil temperature < 30°C, the indoor fan will stop.

Fan low cycle on & off option

This option is selected if no any resistor is inserted into RFAN.

The low fan will cut in for 30 seconds and subsequently off for 120 seconds. These cycle of on and off
will repeat.

3.5.2.3 4-way valve changing

This mode will only change to Heat mode if :-

i) Tr <= Ts mode - 3.5°C AND

ii) the compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.

If the present Auto mode is heat, its mode set temperature is 1.5°C below the user Set Temperature.
This mode will only change to Cool mode if :-

i) Tr > Ts mode + 3.0°C AND

ii) the compressor has cut out for at least 10 minutes.
Cool and Heat options working under Auto mode are the same as those working under non-Auto
mode.

3.7 Defrost Mode for Direct Expansion (DX) system only

A defrost timer will start counting when the outdoor heat exchange thermistor is below +3°C.
Upon crossing over +5°C to a higher temperature for more than 150 seconds, the timer will be reset.
The temperature sensing could only be done when the compressor run time is more than 2 minutes.

The likelihood of ice frosting at the outdoor coil is characterized by 3 gradients of outdoor temperature
shown in the chart below:

86

3.7.1 Defrost cycle for DX system only

The defrost cycle is:-

When defrost starts, the indoor fan, outdoor fan & 4-way valve will cut off while the compressor
remains running.

87
3.8 Off mode

When the unit is off, no indication will be provided. All relays will be turned off immediately after the
ON/OFF triggering except the 4-way valve which is subjected to the 55 +/- 5 seconds protection
where applicable.

4 Protections
4.1 Thermostat Minimum OFF Time.

For thermostat cycles, the compressor can only cut in after a minimum period of 3 minutes from the
time it cuts off except during valve changeover sequences.

4.2 Compressor Random Restart

Should the main power cuts out and power resume, there are 2 option whereby will depend on if
memory backup option is selected:-

a) If memory backup option is not selected. Compressor can cut in immediately after power up again;
subject to thermostat cut in mode.
b) If memory backup option is selected. Compressor can cut in 0 – 64 seconds after power up again;
subject to thermostat cut in mode.

In cooling cycle for DX system only, when the Outdoor Coil temperature exceeds 68°C, both the
compressor and outdoor fan will stop operating.

In heating cycle for all system, when the Indoor Coil temperature exceeds 68°C, both of the
compressor and 4WV will stop operating accordingly.

The indoor fan will continue operating as per hot keep.

The unit will auto reset if the temperature goes below 50°C. This is allowed once every power on
reset. RGL can be used to select always auto reset every time the overload occurs.

If the temperature goes below the permissible limit, the overload protection can be reset manually by
triggering the ON/OFF.

88
4.6 Hardware Switch Detection

This is a normally close switch. It is connected in series with the power supply to the controller. Once
there is overload, the switch will open and power supply to controller will be cut off.

During the first cycle of thermostat on since power on reset, a counter is increased by one and a timer
starts to run. If the timer exceeds 3 minutes or the unit is turned off, the counter is reset to 0. During
the increment, if the counter is > 5, the unit will declare compressor overload protection. This fault is
manual resetable.

The counter is saved in the non-volatile memory. If memory backup option is not selected, the counter
is always set to 0 during power on reset. It is selectable thru RGL.

4.7 Outdoor water temperature protection for Water Source Systems only (Tandem & Single)

4.7.1 Cooling Mode (Tandem & Single)

During compressor cut off cycle, if the outdoor water sensor temperature is
a) cooler than 13°C or
b) warmer than 45°C
for at least 20 seconds, compressor is prohibited from cutting in. At the same time outdoor water
temperature error is declared. This error is resettable once the water temperature is between 13°C
and 45°C for at least 20 seconds

During compressor cut in cycle, if the water temperature is

a) warmer than 52°C for 20 seconds after compressor has cut in for more than 20 seconds or
b) cooler than 15°C for 20 seconds after compressor has cut in for more than 180 seconds,
compressor is forced to cut off & water temperature error is declared. This error is resettable once the
water temperature is between 13°C and 45°C for at least 20 seconds.

4.7.2 Heating Mode (Tandem & Single)

During compressor cut off cycle, if the outdoor water sensor temperature is
a) cooler than 10°C or
b) warmer than 35°C
for at least 20 seconds, compressor is prohibited from cutting in. At the same time outdoor water
temperature error is declared. This error is resettable once the water temperature is between 10°C
and 35°C for at least 20 seconds

During compressor cut in cycle, if the water temperature is

a) cooler than 6°C for 20 seconds after compressor has cut in for more than 20 seconds or
b) warmer than 32°C for 20 seconds after compressor has cut in for more than 180 seconds,
compressor is forced to cut off & water temperature error is declared. This error is resettable 3 times
only when the water temperature is between 10°C and 35°C for at least 20 seconds.
After 3 times retry, the fault can only be manually reset by power down & up the unit.

4.8 Outdoor fan speed control (DX system only)

Heating Cycle
The outdoor fan will cut off when the indoor coil temperature exceeds 55°C / 53ºC (Depends on
outdoor/indoor fan speed control option). The outdoor fan may resume when indoor coil temperature
is lower than 50°C.

89
The indoor fan speed will be forced to 1 speed higher than the user set speed when the indoor coil
temperature exceeds 53°C / 51ºC; i.e. LOW fan will be forced to MEDIUM fan while MEDIUM fan will
be forced to HIGH fan and there is no change if the user set speed is HIGH. It will resume at the user
set speed when indoor coil temperature is lower than 48°C.

Cooling Cycle
The outdoor fan will run whenever the compressor is cut in.

4.9 Indoor Anti freeze

This protection is only available in cooling cycle. The system will be in the Frost Prevention Mode if
the Indoor Coil Temp. reaches 1°C / 3ºC (depends on antifreeze option) and below for at least 1
minute AND compressor has been running for at least 10 minutes.

Upon confirmation, the compressor must be stopped. The compressor can only be restarted when the
Indoor Coil temperature reaches 10°C and above for at least 1 minute.

4.11 Gas Leak (Outdoor unit abnormal)

This option is selected via resistor RGL.

The gas leak is declared if indoor coil temperature is > 25°C in cooling cycle or < 20°C in heating
cycle.
The system will check the gas leak mode if compressor run time of 30 minutes is achieved. If above
condition is met, the CPU will reconfirm the indoor coil temperature for another 5 minutes before
declaring the gas leak mode.

No gas leak checking during outdoor defrost. The compressor run timer will be reset.

90

For Heatpump model, Auxiliary Heater will ON immediately if indoor fan is
running (subject to indoor coil temperature).

6 Hardware Selections

3.1 Parameter Description

This parameter enables the selection of Model. Mode available for each model and operation of each
mode is listed.

R - Using cool/heat set temperature and water inlet temperature to regulate on/off.
A - Using auxiliary heater/boiler set temperature and water inlet temperature to regulate
heater/boiler on/off.

1) Chiller Model:
Cooling mode: Compressor on/off (R)

2) Heatpump Model:
Cooling mode: Compressor on/off (R).
Heating mode: Compressor on/off (R), auxiliary heater on/off (A).

3) Chiller or Boiler Model:

Cooling mode: Compressor on/off. (R)
Boiling mode: Boiler on/off (R).

4) Chiller + Boiler Model:

Cooling mode: Compressor on/off (R). Boiler always on.

5) Heatpump or Boiler Model:

Cooling mode: Compressor on/off (R).
Heating mode: Compressor on/off (R). Auxiliary heater on/off (A). Boiler on/off (A).
Boiling mode: Boiler on/off (R).

6) Heatpump + Boiler Model:

Cooling mode: Compressor on/off (R). Boiler always on.
Heating mode: Compressor on/off (R). Auxiliary heater on/off (A). Boiler on/off (A).
This parameter sets the number of compressors and type of capacity-controlled.
1 to 4= 1 to 4 compressors.

This parameter enables the on/off selection from on/off input. If the selection is enabled (G2=1) below
is observed:

During power on, the system will start in on or off, depending to the input contact status (open-off,
close-on). Overriding last state memory.

If contact switches from on to off, system goes to off. If contact switches from off to on, system goes
to on. User panel can always override the setting.

This parameter enables the cooling/heating selection from cool/heat input if it is enabled (G3=1).
When enabled, below is observed:

During power on, system will start in cool or heat depending to the input contact status (open-cool,
close-heat). Overriding last state memory.

If contact switches from cool to heat, system goes to heat. If contact switches from heat to cool,
system goes to heat. User panel can always override the setting.

G5: External alarm input

It enables the external alarm input if G5=1. The unit will sounds an alarm if the input is at fault state.
(See also P19: Auxiliary alarm contact type).

98
G6: Water system for chiller network
Selects the water system for the chiller network., 0=isolated water system, 1=merged water system.
See 7. Networking for more details.

G7: Unit number in group

This parameter sets the unit number in the network group, 0 is the master unit.

Sensor Parameter (“S”)

S1: Entering water sensor calibration

It allows to add an offset to the value measured by entering water sensor.

S2: Leaving water sensor calibration

It allows to add an offset to the value measured by leaving water sensor.

S3: Air sensor calibration

It allows to add an offset to the value measured by air sensor.

5 Operation Algorithm

5.1 Cooling Mode Starting Sequence

Cooling mode selected →water pump starts (if not started) → outdoor fan 1 starts → compressor 1
starts → outdoor fan 2 starts → compressor 2 starts → outdoor fan 3 starts →compressor 3 starts →
outdoor fan 4 starts →compressor 4 starts.

5.2 Heating Mode Starting Sequence

Heating mode selected →water pump starts (if not started) → 4 way valve energized → Auxiliary
heater starts → outdoor fan 1 starts →compressor 1 starts → outdoor fan 2 starts →compressor 2
starts → outdoor fan 3 starts →compressor 3 starts →outdoor fan 4 starts → compressor 4 starts.

105
5.3 Cool Mode Antifreeze

• Runs in cool mode.

• Settings can be selected in cool mode antifreeze parameters (“A”)
• Antifreeze heater can be turned on to prevent freezing.
• Antifreeze alarm will be set-off if water temperature (entering or leaving) drops below antifreeze
alarm set-point. Refer to alarms and signaling.

5.4 Winter antifreeze

• Runs when system in standby mode.

• If outdoor air temperature <=5ºC and entering water temperature<=5ºC, water pump runs 5
minutes every hour. Antifreeze heater will turn on and off together with the water pump.
• If entering water>6ºC, water pump and antifreeze always stops.
• If outdoor air<=2ºC and entering water<=2ºC, system enters heat mode.
• If entering water temperature>15ºC, system returns to standby mode.

5.5 Water Pump

Water pump will run when the system is on except under certain alarm conditions.

5.6 4 Way Valve (4WV)

4 way valve will be energized in heating mode. If the system switches from cooling mode to heating
mode or vice versa, 4WV will switch accordingly. Compressor will be cut off first before 4WV switches.
Delay: Compressor off (55s) → 4WV switch (4s) → compressor on.

5.7 Outdoor Fan

Outdoor fan will run when its corresponding compressor were to start. Delay: outdoor fan on (4s) →
compressor on.

5.8 Compressor Load Balance

The compressor with the shortest accumulated run time will start first. The compressor with the
longest accumulated run time will be the first one to stop.

5.9 Condenser Defrost

Only ONE compressor can enter defrosting at one time. If more that 2 compressors fulfill defrost
condition, the compressor with maximum accumulated run time will enter defrosting cycle.

5.9.1 Start Defrosting Conditions

Defrost timer start counting when defrost sensor <=D1

At any time if defrost sensor > 2ºC for more than 150 seconds, defrost time reset to 0.
After interval time set in D4, and defrost sensor <=D1, defrosting start.

106
5.9.2 Pre Defrost Cycle

When one compressor is confirmed to run defrost cycle, another compressor will turn on for 1 minutes
before the specific compressor enters defrost cycle. If no compressor can be turned on in 1 minute,
defrost cycle will still starting.

5.9.3 Defrosting Cycle

Depends on D5 setting, if D5=0, 4WV, outdoor fan will turn off while compressor continues running.
If D5 not=0, outdoor fan and compressor will turn off. D5/2 later 4WV turns off. D5 compressor turns
on.

5.9.4 Defrost Termination Conditions

Defrost sensor > D2 OR

Maximum duration of defrost cycle elapsed (D3) OR
Defrost end contact open.

5.9.5 Defrost Termination Cycle

Depends on D6 setting, if D5=0, 4WV, outdoor fan turn on while compressor continues running.
If D6 not=0, compressor will turn off. D6/2 seconds later 4WV turns on. D6/2 later outdoor fan and
compressor turns on.

5.10 Manual Condenser Defrost

Upon receiving manual defrost from remote keypad, the system will enter defrosting cycle if defrost
sensor <D2 and defrost end contact is normal.

5.11 Protection for Low Pressure

LP dry contact is checked during Cool, Heat and Standby mode. There is low pressure detection
delay (P3) when first compressor starts initially in heating mode and during defrost cycle.

6 4-20mA Operation Algorithm

With this device connected to the extension board , user is able to control the set temperature of the
smart manager panel / chiller panel by adjust the knob of the device. The SM panel or Chiller panel is
unable to adjust the set temperature due to the priority is given to the device. The difference between
min set temp and max set temp for cool mode, heat mode and boiling mode should maintain in 20 C.

User must turn off the power when installing or removing the device from the board. Female
connector must be installed to the 16 pin male connector slot whenever the device is not installed.
Without the device, user is able to control the set temperature of the SM panel / Chiller panel as per
normal.

7 Networking
Each units have its unit number. There can be up to 50 units in the communication bus. Unit number 0
is the master. In a network, unit 0 must exist.

There are 2 types of networking.

i) Isolated water system.

Master can do global control and individual slave control, slave unit can also have own operation
mode. Master unit can monitor all units.

ii) Merged water system.

Slave units can only follow master operation mode (on/off : If master off, slave cannot on, if master on,
slave can off and on. Cool/heat, must follow master. If change, they will be overridden by master
setting) of master unit. Master unit can monitor all units in the network. In the case of water system
fault in the master, all the slave units will be stop.

• FL, PO, EX, antifreeze alarm in master, ALL stop

• FL, PO alarm ONLY detected in master.
• Inlet, outlet, air sensor in master open/short ALL stop
• Inlet, outlet, air sensor in slave open/short, slave stop only.
• CO, HP, LP, FO, DO, discharge & defrost sensor open/short, individual compressor stop only.
• outdoor defrost: individual compressor
• Winter Auto pump, available for master only
• Winter Auto heat, available for master only
• If fail to receive master status for 2 minutes, all slave unit will stop.
• Slave should have same or longer pump on -> compressor on delay and flow switch checking
delay.
• Slave unit uses its own inlet water sensor for compressor cut in/out.

3.4 Operating Temperature Range and Setting

The temperature setting range for DX system (default) is from 16°C to 30°C (60°F to 86°F). For CW
system, the Cool set temp is from 15°C to 36°C (59°F to 97°F) while for the Heat set temp is 11°C to
29°C (52°F to 84°F). For CW system, at Auto mode normally Cool Set Temp would always at least 1
Deg higher than Heat Set Temp. Thus, when Cool Set Temp key pressed is equal to Heat Set Temp,
Heat Set Temp will decrement by 1 Deg. When Heat Set Temp key pressed is equal to Cool Set

Thermistor

Thermistor Resistance Calculation

1) For thermistor, the most important characteristic is the B value.

2) B 25-50 means the B value between 25°C and 50°C.

3) In order to derive the B value between t1 and t2, first, we need to obtain the resistance of
thermistor at t1 and t2. Let’s assume R1 (at t1) and R2 (at t2).

Substitute t1, t2, R1 and R2 into the formula below to obtain the B value:
B value between t1°C and t2°C,
B t1- t2 = ln (R1/ R2) ÷ [1/( t1 + 273.15) – 1/( t2+273.15)]

Example :
B value for copper sensor between 25°C and 50°C,
B 25-50 = ln (10000/4085) ÷ [1/(25+273.15) – 1/(50+273.15)]
= 3450

4) For copper sensor, B 25-50 = 3450

For silver sensor, B 25-50 = 3330

5) Rearrange the formula, we get

ln (R1/R2) = B t1- t2 [ 1/(t1 + 273.15) - 1/(t2 + 273.15) ]

Take reference at 25°C, copper sensor

ln (R1/10000) = 3450 [ 1/(t1 + 273.15) - 1/298.15 ]

Substitute R1 with R and t1 with T and rearrange the formula, we get

R = 10,000 * e 3450[1/ (T+273.15) – 1/298.15]
Where, R = Resistance at T °C
T = Temperature measured by thermistor

For Silver sensor,

R = 5,000 * e 3330[1/ (T+273.15) – 1/298.15]
