The President of India, New Delhi

Dear friends across India and the world,

We're all feeling the shock of the awful attacks in Mumbai. All our hearts go out to the
victims and their families. I'm writing this because I feel we need to honor their memory.

The attacks were aimed at our people, our prosperity and our peace. But their top target was
something else: our unity. If these attacks cause us to turn on each other in hatred and
conflict, the terrorists will have won. They know that hatred and chaos feed on division. They
also know they are radical extremists, and their only hope of reaching society as a whole is by
turning the rest of us against each other.

Let's deny them that victory. We're launching a message to extremists on all sides and
all our political leaders, one that will soon be published in newspapers across India and
Pakistan. The message is that these tactics aren't working, that we're more united than
ever, united in our love and support to each other, and determined to work together to stop
violent extremism. If millions of people sign it, our message will be unmistakable, click below to
sign it and please forward this email widely:

http://www.avaaz.org/en/india_undivided/

As a Muslim, I am shocked at what has been done in the name of my faith. As an Indian, I am
determined to keep these terrorists from tearing our nation apart. As a human being, I join with
the entire world in condemning this horrific violence.

It's time to speak out, let's do it together.

With respect, sadness and hope,

Soha Ali Khan

Bollywood actress and Avaaz senior advisor

7. Abhishek Kadyan Delhi, India -Mumbai Terror Attack- Statement by Shri L.K. Advani
Leader of the Opposition (Lok Sabha) New Delhi – 27
November 2008 - The terrorist attack on Mumbai is an
audacious challenge to India’s Nation State. - While
maintaining calm and unity, we must all resolve to break
the back of India’s enemies. I am traumatized by the
events in Mumbai since last night. Clearly, the terrorists
have declared a full-scale war on India and sought to sever
the country’s economic nerve with their meticulously
planned carnage across the metropolis. The magnitude of
their sinister design and determination is evident from the
fact that they are yet to be fully overpowered. They are still
holding people hostage in some leading hotels and private
houses more than 12 hours after starting the onslaught on
innocent people in various parts of the city. No other city in
our country has borne the brunt of terrorism so repeatedly
and in so deadly a fashion as Mumbai. In earlier terrorist
acts in Mumbai as well as in other places in India, outside
Jammu & Kashmir, the attacks have been mostly in the
form of bomb blasts by anonymous persons. For the first
time, last night, terrorists have also resorted to
indiscriminate firing at a crowded railway station, hospital,
luxury hotels, cinema halls, and residential buildings. Also,
for the first time, the fidayeen attackers have held
foreigners as hostages. As many as 100 persons have
been killed in this mayhem. Last night’s terrorist attack
using grenades, other explosives and AK47 rifles is in a
very significant way a continuation of the first episode of
serial bomb blasts in Mumbai on 12 March 1993. It
appears 26 November 2008 is a continuation of 12 March
1993. In the context of what has happened last night in
Mumbai, there is no doubt that both the UPA Government
at the Centre and the CongressNCP coalition Government
in Maharashtra have a lot to answer for. However, I shall
not comment on this aspect now as today is not the
occasion to do so. Right now, the need of the hour is for
the people of Mumbai, Maharashtra and the entire country
to stay united and calm. Maintenance of peace, tranquility,
communal harmony and patriotic unity must be our highest
priority. I spoke to the Prime Minister last night to express
my concern as soon as I heard the news. Today morning
he called me to suggest that both of us should travel
together to Mumbai to examine the situation, express

solidarity with the security forces and also try to provide
succour to the victims of the tragedy. I have readily agreed
to his proposal. Accordingly, I deferred my plan to leave for
Mumbai immediately. I pay homage to all the brave
policemen and police officers who confronted the terrorists
by risking their lives. In particular, I feel sad that Hemant
Karkare, chief of the AntiTerrorist Squad (ATS),
Maharashtra, senior police officers Ashok Kamte and Vijay
Salaskar have lost their lives in yesterday’s operation.
Coming in the wake of the recent martyrdom of police
officer Mohan Chand Sharma in an encounter with
terrorists in New Delhi, these acts of dedicated service and
sacrifice have earned our security forces the gratitude of
the nation. ~Issued by the Communications Office of Shri L

55. Daughter of Delhi, India Advani blames intelligence agencies for Mumbai terror
Naresh Kadyan attacks
New Delhi, Nov 28 (PTI) Senior BJP leader L K Advani
today blamed the intelligence agencies for Mumbai terror
attacks, saying their preoccupation with "Hindu terror"
helped the terrorist plot go undetected.
"It now appears that a mobile phone with a terrorist is of
Pakistani origin. This reinforces the fact that intelligence
agencies' energy is being diverted to nail the so-called
Hindu terror which evidently enabled the Mumbai
attackers' plot go undetected", Advani said in a statement
today.
Accusing the UPA of not being serious about tackling
terror, he said, "The government's non-serious approach is
reinforced by reports that the Mumbai attackers arrived in
the city by the sea route." He also urged the Prime Minister
Manmohan Singh to convene a meeting of Chief Ministers
to chalk out a strategy to contain the new danger of
sea-borne terror.
"I again urge the PM to summon a conference of CMs of
all states on the western coast line to activate a firm
strategy to deal with the new threat of sea-borne terror," he
said.
The BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate expressed hope that
the Government, even at the fag end of its tenure, would
devise a robust and zero tolerance policy to tackle
terrorism.
Advani said that apart from strengthening and streamlining
the intelligence network, the Government needs to take
whatever intelligence inputs it receives seriously and act
upon it. PTI

and inefficient political leaders who are undoubtedly there
heading key billets only for their personal benifits.
Lets ensure that each leader is aptly qualified to handle
that discipline and they undergo a mandatory time with that
department prior to being handed over the reigns.
They all are supposed to be leaders of janta the common
man, so why are they scared---let them not have a single
securty guard....let the places of national interest may it be
economical or historical or cultural or sensitive nature be
guarded with the same crew.
Just by resigning and transferring them we are not
achieving anything, they need to be brought to the book for
their inefficiencies.
Where in the defence forces are sent to fight an unknown
enemy the ,laurels are given to the state ---police---
administration...beaurocrats....why---its not he role of the
defence forces to run to the call of the task which cant be
handled by the Police---- give the police the requisite
powers----armament---man power----treat them with
respect and let each one of them put their head up in
pride----but we need to upgrade them too.
Let us simple citizens not work in silos---lets be united ---or
else the day aint far away when all these political crooks
