Problems:

1. A plant produces pumps at the rate of P units per day. The variable costs per pump have been
found to be $47.73+0.1P1.2 . The daily fixed charges are $1750, and all other expenses are
constant at $7325/day. If the selling price per pump is $173, determine the number of units
needed to minimize the cost per unit

Variable cost= $/pump=47.73+0.1P1.2

Fixed costs= $1750+$7325=9075/day
Selling Price; $/pump=173

To get the number to minimize the cost , the equation is:

𝑑𝐶𝑇 9075
𝑑𝑃
= (1.2)(.1)(P.2)- 𝑃2
=0

P=165 units/ day

2. Using the Beattie-Bridgeman equation, Calculate the volume of a stage of a

compression section of an air separation unit at 273.15K and 2atm.The selected gas is
air and the following values have already been computed:
α= 22.4147
β= -2.6583
γ= 0.1872
δ=5.5703x10-3

Answer using Beattie-Bridgeman formula= 11.0882 L
