Assessment Task 3

Ancient Ecosystems
Audio-Visual Presentation

Introduction to Assessment Task 3

This project will allow you to apply what you have learned about present ecosystems to study ancient
ecosystems from different Geological Eras in Australia. You may work in pairs. Select a Geological Time
Period to research. Each partner will get the same mark for the submission.

Assessment Task 3 is in two parts;

Part A
1. A Storyboard of your Presentation. This shows the images you use and your script beside the
image. Include references at the end.
a. Download a template of the storyboard from your Connect Library Task 3 Folder.
b. Complete the story board
c. Save it with your names in the file name.
d. Upload to Connect Submissions Folder

Part B
2. iMovie Presentation.
a. Use the iMovie App and build a 3 minute iMovie.
(You may present your research as a very short PowerPoint or Prezi – negotiate with your
Teacher)
Your Audio-Visual Presentation should consist of;
 a few images that summarise the main points of your research and
 a short voice-over
 one question that results from your research
 acknowledgements and references
 music (optional)

Arrangement of the task

There are different ancient ecosystems. Each pair of students chooses one ancient ecosystem.

Researching the Topic

There is one hyperlink to a website to start your research. Start your research there. You may need to
navigate elsewhere to find suitable images.
Copies of pages from booklet Australia’s Geological History. Australian Geoscience
Acknowledge these in your credits. Reference other material that you present.

Time for Researching and Building your Project

Two class periods allocated for research, storyboarding and uploading to Connect.
Two class period allocated for building the iMovie project presentation.
One class period to complete and upload the iMovie project presentation

Evaluation
There are two types of evaluation associated with your research.
Your storyboard will be evaluated as a pair.
Peer and teacher evaluation of the iMovie presentation.

Presentation of iMovies
Presentation will be through a MacBook connected to the data projector.
When the iMovies are being presented the audience students will make notes
Topics from which to choose.
