10. Course Objective

•To provide students with the knowledge of the fundamental principles and calculation
techniques used in chemical engineering.
•To provide knowledge of the principles of mass and energy balance involved in chemical
processes.

11. Course Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this course, students shall be able to:

1. Convert between systems of units.
2. Explain processes and process variables such as flow rate, chemical composition,
temperature and pressure.
3. Perform calculations on mass balance for chemical processes.
4. Perform calculations on energy balance for chemical processes.

12. Course Synopsis:

This course covers the fundamental engineering calculations from the unit conversion to data
analysis. Concepts of mass and energy balance in chemical processes will be discussed in
detail and be applied in the analysis of non-reactive and reactive systems with and without
phase changes.
