Effect of vulcanization According to work carried out by the Research Institute for
accelerators and a fiiler on Rubber and Plastics Technology, Zlin, increasing the dosage of
properties of surgical gloves accelerators, combinations of them or combinations with
antioxidants results in relatively good resistance to thermal and
oxidation ageing. A similar improvement is also achieved in
resistance to sterilization. However, increasing the content of
accelerators also increases the content of nitrosamines, which,
together with other vulcanisation products, give rise to skin
allergies following long-term use of gloves. This may be solved
be using vulcanization accelerators based on urethane.

Replacement of CFC blowing The extensive work on substitutes for CFC 11 in the
agents in the manufacture manufacture of expanded PUS gives rise to hope that it will be
of PU foams possible to achieve a considerable reduction, perhaps with a
complete end to its use by the year 2000. The newly developed
substitute blowing agents HCFC-14llb and HCFC-123, together
with the use of the carbon dioxide released by the reaction of
diisocyanates with water, treated polyols, catalytic systems and
surface active substances, enable expanded PUS to be produced
with even better physical and applicational characteristics.
