SETTING UNITS, LIMIT AND PAPER SIZE

1. Objective(s):

 CREATE a template with limit application.

 DEVELOP critical thinking on setting a paper limit, grid and snap setting with AutoCAD.
 DISCUSS the differences of acquiring techniques on setting the drawing limits and grid and
snap spacing.

2. Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs):

The students shall be able to:

2.1 Create a template with paper size limitation.
2.2 Develop critical thinking on selecting a paper limit using different techniques of AutoCAD

3. Discussion:
• Units is a command that can controls the encoding of actual paper measurements for linear and
angles that could be set as a constant value including the number of decimal places that will be
used for CAD dimensioning procedure.

• In exception with that, this format can be used with any basic unit of measurement such as decimal
mode which applicable for any measurement system unit.

• To compute for the size of the paper multiply the paper size with the plotting scale ( Paper Size X
Plotting Scale).

• For the onscreen paper size, Grid Extents should be used. (Using limits command for
modification of grid that will be extents)

• Bounding Objects (The paper can be created by using rectangle, corner pts., line and etc.
commands)

• Limits is use for the pre-scale of the drawing model of the electronic file.

Note: The importance of setting the grid limits is to enables the user upon completing the object
that will fit on the paper specified space.

Units - Using the command bar type un then press enter key

Fig. 1.1 Drawing Units window

Convert the following

Inches to millimeters
8 inches ---___________ 10 inches ---____________
11 inches ---____________ 13 inches ---____________
14 inches ---____________ 20 inches ---____________

Limits - Using the command bar type limit/s then press enter

Then at the command prompt

Fig. 1.2 Command Bar

Type the following coordinates 279, 216

Note: that x= 279 and y = 216 of the upper right corner of the paper respectively.

Grids and Snap Spacing - Using the command bar type Grid then press enter
Then at the command prompt type the value of 100 then press enter

Note: That variable 100 is the desired spacing between each grid points.
1. Using the command prompt type snap then press enter
2. Then at the command prompt type the value of 8 then press enter (the variable 8 is the desired
snap spacing point.)
