 About the Artists
The Freedom Artist Guitar Ensemble is based at
Program Freedom High School in South Riding, Loudoun County,
Virginia. One of the fastest growing regions in the
Freedom Artist Guitar Ensemble country, Loudoun County has 15 public high schools that

Formed in 2016, the Colgan High School Chamber
Ensemble has transformed into the premier performing
ensemble at the school. The ensemble is comprised of
students from 10th–12th grade who represent the best
of Colgan not only musically, but academically and
artistically as well. This ensemble performs a wide
variety of repertoire including authentic music from
around the world, 21st century composers, and music
from the traditional choral canon. The Chamber
Ensemble routinely receives superior ratings at VCDA
Assessment and invitations to perform throughout the
Commonwealth. Members of the group are annually
selected for honor choruses such as All-Virginia Chorus,
Senior Honor Choir, and ACDA Regional and National
choruses. Many students from this ensemble plan on
pursuing a career in the arts.

John Hanson Montessori School (JHMS), part of
Prince George’s County Public Schools, features the John
Hanson Montessori Program dedicated to helping
children learn in an enriching environment that
encourages individual growth, through methods
developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. In this enriched
environment, students become self-motivated,
independent learners who demonstrate respect for
themselves, others, and their environment. JHMS is a
green school and an Arts Integration school under the
leadership of Principal Zory Kenon III. The JHMS Chorus
was founded by Richard Schaadt in 2004, and in 2005
the John Hanson International Percussion Ensemble
(JHIPE) was created, soon adding its unique sound to the
JHMS choral program. JHIPE is a unique group; dedicated
to performing world percussion at a high level as well as
promoting the benefits of world drumming in music
education. Students audition for the group and rehearse
once a week. The Middle School Chorus is comprised of
23 members from the sixth to the eighth grade, and
they rehearse two to three times per week. The John
Hanson Montessori Middle School Chorus is known
regionally for their energetic and diverse performances.
Under the direction of Schaadt, they have performed at
the State Level Maryland Assessments, The World Bank,
and at the “Leilani Live!” performance at Bowie State
University for Alzheimer’s research.
