RE: WITHDRAWAL OF SANS 1431, WELDABLE STRUCTURAL STEELS

In 2008 TC1077, Engineering materials - Ferrous metals resolved to adopt the latest edition of EN 10025
series as the South African National Standard to replace SANS 1431. EN 10025 standards were officially
published in 2009 as;

SANS 50025-1/EN 10025-1, Hot rolled products of structural steels Part 1: General technical delivery
conditions

SANS 50025-2/EN 10025-2, Hot rolled products of structural steels Part 2: Technical delivery conditions for
non-alloy structural steels.

SANS 50025-3/EN 10025-3, Hot rolled products of structural steels Part 3: Technical delivery conditions for
normalized/normalized rolled weldable fine grain structural steels.

SANS 50025-4/EN 10025-4, Hot rolled products of structural steels Part 4: Technical delivery conditions for
thermomechanical rolled weldable fine grain structural steels.

SANS 50025-5/EN 10025-5, Hot rolled products of structural steels Part 5: Technical delivery conditions for
structural steels with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance.

SANS 50025-6/EN 10025-6, Hot rolled products of structural steels Part 6: Technical delivery conditions for
flat products of high yield strength structural steels in the quenched and tempered condition.

The decision to withdraw SANS 1431 was temporarily suspended in 2009 the industry/user wanted to
acquaint with SANS 50025 series. The committee RECONFIRMED the decision to replace SANS 1431 with
SANS 50025 series in 2009 July and 2010 March.

This letter serves to confirm that SANS 1431 will be superseded by a suite of SANS 50025 standards.
