1. UPGRADE CONCEPT

1.1. General
The 5000iPS can upgrade the channel, redundancy, interface, and auxiliary function by
hardware configuration change and software license upgrade.

1.2. Upgrade Notice

By upgrade pattern, some additional modules or software license files may be needed to be
ordered, and some configuration change may need the technical skill of the NEC
maintenance engineers.

When you perform the upgrade, it is recommended to contact NEC to make your upgrade
plan.

2. HARDWARE UPGRADE

2.1 General
Before the upgrade operation, it is recommended to read carefully SAFETY
INFORMATION.

NOTE: Even if turning off the power supply, some modules keep hot surface.

2.2 Wrist Strap Connection

The 5000iPS uses the electrostatic-sensitive devices. To prevent from getting damages, an
Antistatic Wrist Strap should be used during the module addition / removing.

Procedure 2-1
1. Wear an Antistatic Wrist Strap, and check that metal plate contacts to the skin
exactly.

2. Connect the other end to the Earth Bonding Point (EBP)in the side of the MDP
section.

Add / Remove the Module with referring to the Notice and the Procedure in next
section.

3. Especially noted that, even if using an Antistatic Wrist Strap, take care that do NOT
touch the electrical device on the printed circuit boards.

4. After adding / removing the module, an Antistatic Wrist Strap is available to

remove.

This step ends the procedure.

2.3 Hardware Upgrade Notice

Some upgrading procedures are required on the following notices.

This operation is equivalent to replace, therefore, some change procedure refers the
mounting portion of CHAPTER III MAINTENANCE- 9.4 Replacement Procedure.

NOTE: The upgrading procedures with cable routing must be operated with turning OFF the re-
lated Power Supply switch for safety of the operation. The procedure No. means in ex-
ample that "C-III-S-9" as "Chapter III MAINTENANCE - Section 9".

3. SOFTWARE LICENSE UPGRADE

3.1 General
Some functions need the software license to become active. And some upgrade procedures
need the hardware addition and software license upgrade.

When needed, contact NEC.

3.2 Software License Upgrade

The upgrade operation can be performed with the WebLCT by the following procedures.

Procedure 3-1
1. Expand the S/W License Setup from the LCT menu.

2. Select the Import License Key from the S/W License Setup sub menu.

The Import License Key window appears.

3. Click the Setup button.

4. Click File icon button.

5. Select the License Key File to be applied in the window.

The Import License Key window appears again.

6. Click OK button.

When the License Key File is imported successfully, the Update Complete is
displayed in the dialog box.

7. Click OK button.

8. Confirm that the Import License Key window performed at the step-3 described
above is updated correctly.

Note When License assignment change is needed, operate the procedure in accordance
with Chapter III MAINTENANCE - Section 8.2.3 Software License Key
Information.

This step ends the procedure.

APPENDIX 1. 5000S/IP HYBRID UPGRADE

A1.1. General
The 5000S in service can be upgraded to 5000S TRP + 5000iPS MDP configuration or
5000S / IP Hybrid configuration explained in Chapter I GENERAL Appendix 1.

And, some upgrading operations need the technical skill of the NEC maintenance
engineers. When needed, contact NEC.
