SWC Lesson Reflection (Completed after EVERY lesson taught)

Select (S):
Identify a lesson and what standards are you addressing:
I taught students the letter J, by bringing a mystery box, and let them to guess what inside the box that
start with letter J, that will make them to think and developing their cognitive skills by thinking of things
that start with letter J, and that thing helps me to grab their whole attention to me.

After that I show them a video of the sound of the letter, so everyone in the class can say the sound of the
letter, whenever they see the letter. Then I show them a video that explained how to write the letter in
two shape lowercase and uppercase. To make sure that they learned the different between the uppercase
and the lowercase, I made a game which is sticking letter J under their chairs, and they have to take It
and stick it in the right jar, and I was observed them that they know the different between J and j.

After that, I made some different challenging activities for a different levels of the students, so the
activities will be suitable for their level abilities and their understanding.

Describe (D):

Who is the lesson for?

Where did the lesson take place?

The lesson is for the students in KG 1 which are 5 and 4 years old, the lesson were in the classroom, and I
did the introduction of the lesson in the circle area, and the activities in their places which is in the table.

What were you trying to achieve in your lesson?

For clarifying, I was trying to achieve in the lesson is deliver the information for the children in an
interested way, Also, I was focusing in let them behave during the lesson, so I used classroom
management’s strategy such as the happy and the sad face, and using a bell.

What did the students do?

During introducing the lesson, student was so active, and they were interest on the mystery box, they
were want to open the box and see what inside the box. Students were behaved because I grab their
attention by the big J balloon.

Analyze (A):
Why do you think the students responded the way that they did?
How well did your teaching relate to the students’ prior understanding?
How well did you engage the students?

Students were so excited when they saw the big balloon J and the box, they were interesting because
they want to know what inside the box because children are always curious. Furthermore, this
techniques was very effective because children are recognizing things that start with letter J because
children are visual learners, and they learn by real object more that taking.

In the end of the lesson, I let the students to work together, and I ask them to write letter J, and then
draw anything that start with letter J, and I was observing them, some of them cant write the letter, so I
make dots and they have to trace the letters, also, I will notice the children who can’t write the letter, so
I have to give the students homework about writing the letter, and that will help them to know how to
write. This prior activity helps me to save time, and it help me to know who is the child, who can’t write
the letter correctly. I made it a work group activity, so that will develop their social interaction together.

Appraise (A):
Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective

I think the students were so interesting in the lesson, and they enjoying doing the activities, without
getting jealous from each other activates. They use their creativity in a good way which is making an
animal that start with letter J. The student was response me, and they are doing what I told them to do,
that’s why I think the lesson were successful.

Did your lesson meet your teaching goals?

For clarification, I achieved my learning goals, because during the activities I ask the students lots of
questions and they were response me in the correct way. For example, I asked Kian what is the sound of
letter J, and he answered me the write sound, then I went to Shailoh and I asked her to give words that
start with letter J, and she said Jeans. Furthermore, in the end of the lesson, during the prior activity I
noticed that most of the students write letter J in correct way, so in the end I believe that my lesson
meets my teaching goals.

Transform (T):
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?
In the mystery box part especially I let the children to guess what inside the box, and they did not know,
and when I took it out, I say the name of the objective, I think to enhance students learning skills I should
let the students to say what is that, that will help them to develop their cognitive skills.

What are the implications for your professional practice?

In the lesson I try to use many classroom management, so the children be quit and listening to me, so I
used bell, and when they heir the bell, they were making noises more, whereas when I used the happy
face and the sad face, they were more behave.
