Overview  Day 1: Intro to the Middle Ages and Christianity/ Judaism 
Day 2: Islam and the Prophet Muhammad 
Day 3: Controversy over Jerusalem 
Day 4: Crusades Background & Motivation 
Day 5: Influences in Africa 
Day 6: Advancements in the East and Intro to Mongols 
Day 7: Mongol Role Play 
Day 8: Advertising & Persuasion Techniques/ Project Expectations 
Day 9: Debate Recording/ Due at end of class. 
The ultimate goal is for students to film a debate in their groups 
answering one of the debatable questions for this unit: 1) To what extent 
did ideology support growth of civilization in the Middle Ages? Or 2) 
To what extent do leaders use ideology as a way to justify their goals?

including Islamic teachings on the connection with Judaism and Christianity

4. Understand the importance of both overland trade and maritime expeditions 
between China and other civilizations in the Mongol Ascendancy and Ming Dynasty.

structures of the sub­Saharan civilizations of Ghana and Mali in Medieval Africa. 
 
7.6 Students analyze the geographic, political, economic, religious, and social 
structures of the civilizations of Medieval Europe. 
6. Discuss the causes and course of the religious Crusades and their effects on 
the Christian, Muslim, and Jewish populations in Europe, with emphasis on the 
increasing contact by Europeans with cultures of the Eastern Mediterranean world.
