Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in SCIENCE

Grade 9

I. Objectives:

At the end of the lesson, students are able to:

1. Identify the different components of the circulatory system

2. Demonstrate the different types of blood circulation with its description
3. Give the importance of circulatory system.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: The Circulatory System

Reference: SCIENCE 9 Learner's Module pp.11-13
Materials: Projector, laptop, marker, manila paper, illustration board, handouts
Values Integration: Heath Awareness

III. Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities

Prayer
Greetings
Checking of Attendance
B.Developmental Activities

1. Motivation

The teacher will present a maze wherein students will pick every gemstone along the way
that the rules of the maze will require in going to the destination.

Rules:

1. Start the journey on the starting arrow.

2. Pick the gemstone orderly while going through the destination.
3. Have the students to hold the gemstone one by one that corresponds the color.
4. After collecting all the required gemstone, turn it back and everybody will read aloud what
are the words that are written.

2. Activity

The teacher will group the class into three. Handouts will be given to each group. Each group
will answer the questions that the teacher will write on the board.

Questions:

Group 1 Question
What are the different functions of circularory system?
Group 2 Question
What are the three major parts of the circulatory system. Explain their roles.
Group 3 Question
What are the different types of blood circulation. Explain its description.

3. Presentaion/Discussion
Let the students present their works and give appraisal for every group presentation.
The circulatory system is the life support structure that nourishes your cells with nutrients
from the food you eat and oxygen from the air you breathe. It can be compared to a complex
arrangement of highways, avenues and lanes connecting all the cells together into a
neighborhood. Sequentially, the community of cells sustains the body to stay alive. Another
name for the circulatory system is cardiovascular system.

The circulatory system functions with other body systems to deliver different materials in the
body. It circulates vital elements such as oxygen and nutrients. At the same time, it also
transports wastes away from the body.

Three Major Parts of the Circulatory System and their Roles

1.HEART- pumps the blood throughout the body.

2. BLOOD VESSEL- carries the blood throughout the body

Arteries- carry oxygenated blood away from the heart to the cells, tissues, and organs of the
body
Veins- carry deoxygenated blood to the heart
Capillaries- the smallest blood vessels in the body, connecting the smallest arteries to the
smallest veins
- the actual site where gases and nutients are exchanged

3. BLOOD- carries the materials throughout the body

CIRCULATION
TYPE OF CIRCULATION DESCRIPTION DIAGRAM

Pulmonary Circulation Movement of blood from the

heart, to the lungs and back to
the heart

Coronary Circulation Movement of blood through

the tissues of the heart

Systematic Circulation

Movement of blood from the

heart to the rest of the body,
excluding the lungs

4. Application

The teacher will let the students with the same

grouping, to demonstrate how the blood
circulation happens. Rubric will be set as follows by
teacher and students.

Rubric:

Cooperation -50%
Correctness-50%

Group Task:

Each group will have each type of blood circulation to demonstrate. All members are required
to participate.

5. Generalization
The teacher will ask a question for each group.

1.What have you learned today?

2. Why is the circulatory system important?

IV. Evaluation

Individual Assessment

Using the graphic organizer, fill in the missing parts, description, and functions to complete
the entire concept.
V. Assignment

Draw a human heart and label its different parts. Draw it in your notebook.
