EDU 133: Lesson Plan with Educational Technology Integration

Team: Tara Cramer and Faith Price


Lesson Topic: Character Education: Empathy (day 3 of a 5 day Unit) Grade Level: 3
Lesson Objective: By the end of this lesson, students will be able to create a visual
presentation using the information they learned during character education and role-
playing lessons about empathy.

● Notes from character education lesson and role-playing lesson

Lesson Activity Plan

Introduction (Google Slides - pages 5-7)


18 minutes ● “Let’s discuss what empathy means to each one of you.”
● “What do you remember from our role-playing lesson yesterday?”
● Whole group discussion about the previous lessons. Summarize the
events and come up with a group definition of empathy, record it on
a large piece of poster paper to be posted in classroom as a
reference.
● “Yesterday, you did role-playing to explore examples of empathy.
Today, you will use an application called Google Slides to create a
presentation of what empathy means to you.”

Direct ● Video tutorial on how to get started with Google Slides.


Instruction ● Teacher demonstration how to get to slides on google and how to
20 minutes properly use slides (insert text and pictures).
● Teacher checks comprehension by asking the students questions on
how to get to certain items such as textbox and images.
● Instructions are given for login, how to share and collaborate with
assigned partners, expectations (4 slides at the minimum), as well as
grading rubric.

Guided ● Students are given time to ask questions, use slides for themselves,
Practice collaborate with their partner, and login.
15 minutes ● Students take this time to get started on the project.
Ind./ Partner ● Students reference the empathy poster made yesterday as a class for

40 minutes lessons, and make it into a Google Slides presentation.
