X. Self-Assessment
As we moved through the chapter students were struggling with the idea of physical
geography and physical features. As part of this chapter the students learned about
three different locations in the United States including the physical features, climate
and natural resources of each area. I wanted to find a more engaging way for students
to learn about physical geography. I decided to use Google Earth to allow students to
explore different locations around the United States and the physical features. I
acquired extra iPads from other classrooms so we could at least have one iPad for
every two students. As a whole group we explored Mt. Everest, Grand Canyon,
Sequoia National Park, and the Petrified Forest. The students were so engaged and
had the opportunity to really see the different physical features of each location.
Once the activity was complete the students had a much better understanding of what
physical features are and how they affect the communities around them.
