The following procedures are proposed for monitoring the threading and installation of System ‘B’ CABR Couplers for
use on the following project:-
These procedures apply specifically to the use of CABR Couplers and do not apply to the use of other Coupler
systems. Similarly procedures for other coupler systems to not apply for the use of CABR couplers
The recommended procedures are shown below together with the required action for each procedure:-
8 Carry out tensile test on random selection of 3 bars (selection Once in every Ensure tests achieve 125% of
by Client) 10,000 couplers nominal yield stress of bar
B. COUPLER ASSEMBLY FREQUENCY ACTION
1 Select required bars and re-check length Every bar
2 STANDARD SPLICE TYPE B1 : Every bar The bar should be tightened
Ensure that the thread length of each bar is equal to half with a pipe wrench but no
coupler length. specific tightening torque is
Place coupler on thread of 1st side of connection and tighten required. Do not over-tighten
with pipe-wrench. Thread 2nd bar into the coupler – ensure full
length of thread engaged. Tighten with wrench,
3 POSITION SPLICE B2 – (where second bar cannot rotate) Every bar The bar should be tightened
Ensure that the thread length of each bar is equal to half with a pipe wrench but no
coupler length. One bar thread should be a standard RH and the specific tightening torque is
other should be a LH thread. required. Do not over-tighten
Place coupler between two bars which are to be connected –
ensure bars and coupler are in same alignment and that the
right hand thread of the coupler is matched with the right hand
bar thread on the bar . Engage coupler onto both bars
simultaneously – the bars will be drawn together. Ensure that
the threads on both bars are fully engaged and reach the end of
the coupler. Complete the tightening of the coupler onto the
bars with a pipe-wrench.
