Sexting has been a problem since photos have been able to be sent through text messaging. With adolescents being able to access technology at an earlier age. The issue of children sexting is on the rise. In the last decade, studies have shown that adolescents admitted to exchanging explicit messages and pictures. However, how these studies were conducted make percentage of adolescents vary from study to study. This poses a serious psychological and legal risks for the children involved in these acts. A study was conducted on a private high school. In a similar study, at that same school 4 years earlier. Studies shown that 15.6% of males and 13.8% of the females have admitted to sending explicit pictures of genitals. And about 40.5% of males and 30.6% of females have admitted to receiving explicit pictures. The data collected from the second survey was like the first survey conducted at that same school. However, they did find that rate of forwarding has dropped from the first survey. Only about 12.2% of males and 7.6% of females reported forwarding these emails. In conclusion, studies have found that sexting is consistent amongst adolescents.
