Proclamation No. 1081 on September 21,
1972, placing under Martial Law.

Very Good!
Why are there people who post Facebook
statuses that are nostalgic about martial law?

Ma’am because they are afraid of martial law

history they don’t want that to happen again.
Very well said.

As a new generation of Filipinos, what can

we learn from this period in our history?
Ma’am as a new generation history is
important to understand the importance of
being truthful to others and also to understand
of what was happening before.

From your previous lesson in your previous

year or level you have already discussed
this.

government system.
Yes Ma’am.

system. We may now go deeper.

Authoritarianism?
Yes Ma’am.
Ok. That’s good.

regarding martial law. In the history books,
martial law is seen as a great evil under the
reign of former President Marcos, but there
are some Filipinos ho look at our martial law
past with fondness.

2. Analysis

Class, our lesson for today is about

Authoritarianism.

Can anyone define what is

Authoritarianism? Ma’am the enforcement or advocacy of strict
obedience to authority at the expense of
personal freedom and it is the oldest and
most common form of government.

All legislative and political choices are given

to one person (autocracy) or a small group
(oligarchy).

Leaders do not need consent from their

people.

Constitutional freedoms are not guaranteed.

Number 2 please

Transition of Power means no free and open

elections.

Leaves room for military dictatorships via

Coup D’état or rebellion.

Coup D etat is the unlawful removal of a

government by its political adversaries, either
by violent or non-violent means, usually
resulting in a government that does the very
opposite the former was doing or, in some
cases, trying to keep the policies the former
sought to reverse.

Ok, Number 3.

Control of the Press

All forms of media are controlled by the
government.

Media referred to the Fourth Estate: a pillar

for society that projects its voice amidst a
chorus of government institution and public
demands.
And finally, the last one is?

Ma’am Political Parties

Have one political party that serves to

provide a veil of legitimacy to an illegitimate
government.

Differing political views and platforms are
