III. Case History

 Family Background
Name Age Relationship Occupation
Florina Urciana 38 mother housewife
Enrique Urciana 44 father Security guard
Jeric Urciana 21 brother teacher
Maria Jinky Urciana 19 client college student
Princess Urciana 8 sister student
The client has a good relationship with her parents and siblings; she is the second
among the three. Her mother is a housewife while her father is a security guard. She and
her father used to talk with each other a lot. Her older brother was a teacher and when
they were in their childhood, they are best buddies. The client said that her childhood
days aren’t that happy because her mother always locks them inside their house or “hindi
pinapalabas ng bahay”. She and her brother used to escape in the afternoon when their
mother was sleeping so that they get the opportunity to play outside but after all they end
up being scolded with their mother and as a punishment they are “pinapadipa”. They
didn’t experience also “paliligo sa ulan at bawal silang mapaulan or hamog” because they
easily got sick. When she was second year high school, it’s her first time to play tumbang
preso and patintero. When she was a baby, she suffered convulsion, and almost died
that’s why their mother is that overprotective of them. They have many debts and her
parents decided her to stop studying but she make all she can in order to continue her
studies and apply for scholarships.

 Relation to Peers

The client has her group of friends in school which she was always with. She said
that when they are together, they share a lot of laughter’s. She is a friendly girl and a
cheerful one. She indicated also her high school friends and share stories with them. Ms.
J and her best friend aren’t now in good relationship because her old best friend is the
recent best friend of their friend. She said “di ko alam pero pag magkakasama kaming
tatlo parang di nila ako kasama kaya minsan di na lang ako nasama sa kanila”.

 Relation to Significant Other

The client has a boyfriend, they are 3 years and 8 months as couple but actually
they are best friends since high school. They have their past relationships when they were
in high school but their relationship didn’t work, so that they became best of friends. She
supports her best friend especially when the he met another girl. She used to buy gifts for
her best friend’s girlfriend using her best friend’s money but her best friend and the other
girl also didn’t fit with each other. Lately they realize that they can be lovers again.
Her relationship with her boyfriend is never known legally with her parents, they know
only that they are just best friend but she thinks that her parents already knew about them
because they are always asking about him.
She remembered about last Valentine’s Day with her boyfriend. She said that they
just only had a date but she was expecting a bit surprising day because that day is actually
their anniversary and at the same time Valentine’s Day but she said she just let it passed.

IV. Experience as Clinician

As a clinician, I learned how observations really matters. Respecting one’s life

and stories, and treating the client with compassion and competence. Interviewing skills
should be considered like active listening and eye to eye contact. I used also the
techniques like paraphrasing, summarizing, reflection and clarification and also
questioning but as a clinician, maintaining confidentiality is very important. I
experienced warm conversation with Jinky, at first it’s a bit awkward because we just
smiled every time we see each other in class. Jinky is attentive during the interview and
also in answering the MSE. Later on we feel comfortable in telling each stories and I saw
her truthfulness and positive aspect in life.

V. Observation to Clinician

The clinician has good interviewing and listening skills. I observed that she is really
listening and understands what I am saying to her, especially when I tell stories. She also asked
questions that I can say that she is willing to cooperate with me as her client.
