Solid Piers. Styies of foundatiorr
vary considerabiy. One type is the
soiid concrete or bricked-up pier, shorvn
in Fig. 8-8. ilhis type must be prop-
erly insulated from the tanir to pre-
vent the derrelopment of corrosion areas
on the tanli at poiuts of contact with
the pier. W'ood, rubber, or asPha,lt
can be used for this purpose.
Cribbing Piers. Timbers can be
cribbed, or if the storage tanh is small,

tank resting in the cradle thus provided (see Fig. 8-9). Sucli supports
prorride for movement and shock absorption.
Supporting I Beams Resting on Piers. This type of support, shorvn in
trig. 8-10, permits variation of temperatnre in the equipment without
rupture of the piers by creeping. Usually the tank is ancliorecl at one
