The Phoenix Union High School District is the district I have been observing, and would
like to start my career in. The demographic is not that much different from surrounding schools,
however, they see a difference in both gender and ethnicity. The team teach topic was to teach
our students how to say “I Love You” which is important in every language, and part of the
world.
The Phoenix Union High School District (PUHSD) oversees 20 schools with a total of
27,761 students. The current school I am observing, and received the information is from Trevor
G. Browne High School which is located on the north east corner of 75th avenue and Thomas Rd.
The community sometimes looks a bit challenging, but sometimes it looks pretty stable. I live
about 20 minutes away from the school, and notice the difference in communities. My
community is quieter, and with less presence of police officers. While traveling to observe, a few
times I noticed police activities in the community. They had either car accidents, or they were
Trevor G. Browne High School consist of 2891 total students. They have a total of 1428
females and 1463 males. For the females, 1290 are Hispanic, 63 are African American, 36 are
white, 16 are Native Americans, 7 have two or more, and 2 are Native Hawaiians. For the males,
1336 are Hispanic, 51 are African American, 30 are white, 11 are Native Americans, 17 have
two or more, and 2 are Native Hawaiians. We can see how the school is almost even with males
and females, but we can also see the dominance a Hispanic background has in the school.

Teaching students should always have a meaning, and always be positive. Our topic was
to teach how to say “I love you”. This lesson becomes meaningful when the students start to use
this in their life, and with their families. Many students will relate because they will have love in
their background either by their families, or their significant others. For those who may have not
experienced love, this will give them an introduction to what it is, and they can explore it more. I
will also focus on teaching love not only verbally, but socially. Teaching them a variety of
aspects of love will make their social life better, and also their economic life. Being happier
changes their lives, and knowing I was part of the positive change through my lesson is
rewarding.
