QuadPack® Plus Engineered Hydraulics Bits

Improved Drill Bit Design Enhances Hydraulic Performance and Drilling Fluid Efficiency

While drilling with a conventional drill bit, fluid flow in the vicinity
of cutting elements or cutting structures may be very turbulent
and may inhibit or even prevent upward flow of formation cuttings
from the bottom and up the wellbore. New advancements in fluid
flow optimization and control help to greatly reduce and even
eliminate these problems. Our latest design platform is focused on
removing cuttings from crucial areas of the cutting structure and
the wellbore by changing the arm geometry to create directed flow
channels. This in turn produces higher ROP and extends bit life
through the efficient removal of cuttings. New Forging Design -

Engineered Lifting Surfaces Effective Cuttings Removal
Forging Design
Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) aided in creating lifting
surfaces and trailing wedges to better guide fluid flow. The
support arms cooperate with each other to generate an optimum
spiral of fluid to entrain and lift formation cuttings upward while
minimizing build up of cuttings around the bearing sealing area.
Directed Nozzles
In the improved design, the drill bits’ nozzles are directed towards
the leading edge of the cutting structure. Placement of the nozzles,
coupled with improved methods of cuttings removal, help to ensure
a non-restricted fluid flow.
Bit Cleaning
Stagnant fluid zones are moved off the cutting structure for better
cleaning. This allows for higher ROP levels by reducing the quantity
of redrilled cuttings.
Controlled Upward Flow
This tightly controlled upward directed fluid flow creates a clear
path allowing fluid flow to more effectively lift and remove
formation cuttings. Each component related to the directed flow
leads to increased rate of penetration and longer bit life.
The series also includes the QuadPack® features: high-speed
bearing with increased bearing capacity, greater seal reliability,
stronger arms with more surface area for greater stability and the
most responsive pressure compensation system. These longevity
features, combined with hydraulic efficiency, provides the customer
extreme reliability at the highest rates of penetration.
