Abstract

OFEG-ELECTOR or Outdoor Fitness Equipment Green Electrical Generator is a project with the
concept of providing sustainable environment and using other alternative sources to generate
electrical power. OFEG-ELECTOR is an invention based on the idea of harvesting electrical
energy by human energy itself without the use of main common supplies in order to light up
lampposts at certain area. With this idea, the electrical billing crisis faced by some
neighborhoods area can be rectified and reduced. We believe solemnly that this project can go
far and developed to other industrials needing besides maintaining a healthy green-lifestyle
community.

Throughout so many days, we can see
that our main sources of energy (sunlight and
hydropower) have been the only main
supplier of electrical energy for the whole
country. This depending situation might lead
to certain problems which might take time to
be solved. Realizing upon the statement,
another alternatives must be taken to ensure
that energy supplies will not be a crisis
someday. We believe prevention is better
than cure, thus, with OFEG-ELECTOR, an
alternative method is discovered which helps
in generating sides electrical energy in order
to light up lampposts at certain area of
neighborhoods.
Problem statement
Limited power supply in Malaysia are
mainly given to major cities leading the minor
ones occasionally face blackouts. We knew
that power supply is generated by processing
non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels to
electrical energy which eventually will be used
up and cannot be replenished. Most
renewable sources are out of this country’s
league in terms of suitability and costs. For
nations’ windmills. However, only certain
continents are able to run windmills as it
requires an adequate quantity of flowing wind
whereas Malaysia don’t have as it is located
on the Khatulistiwa. Malaysia is pathetically
poor and could not afford to bear the costs of
building large amounts of windmills and
others such as solar panels which take high
costs. Though, some international-based
companies probably had them applied at
certain areas in Malaysia but not widely
spread to the whole country.
Solution
With OFEG-ELECTOR as the new
alternatives, generation of electrical energy at
certain neighborhood areas will not be a
matter anymore due to its capability to harvest
electrical power by using the outdoor fitness
equipment at the park which only require
human energy. Via movement and pressure,
small amount of electrical power can be
produced and can be stored from times to
times till it is needed to light up lampposts at
night. Thus, it does not need to consume the
common electrical supply which helps in
saving costs, energy and environment.

Planning structure
The research begins with a session of
discussion lead by our supervisor regarding
the issue of environmental technology. The
problem found is set as the base or the
foundation to the further studies.
Realizing that we can actually gain
electrical power via our project designed, we
listed all of the components needed to form a
complete structure. The main concept is to
use the outdoor fitness equipment as the
generator via the movement and pressure
exerted of its usage. For example, we have
cardio walker and also leg press. We bind the
idea of attaching dynamos and piezo sensors
as both can produce small amount of
electrical energy. Dynamos produce electrical
energy whenever there is kinematic energy
imposed while piezo sensors sense pressure
and convert it to electrical energy.
The medieval stage of the discussion has
centered that the usage of charging module
as the accumulator or storage to the electrical
power produced. Once it is completely
accumulated, the power then can be
transferred to batteries with the control of
relay. Relay acts as the automatic controller
with the help of Arduino module as its
programming system. LDR is also used to
detect whether it is necessary to light up the
lampposts or not depending on the
surrounding’s light intensity. Last but not
least, the accumulated electrical power then
can be sent to the LED lamp which has its
benefits itself ; produce 0% UV ray and give
out less heat. We also centered the idea of
putting an indicator of how much electrical
power produced by the users as a motivation
or courage for them to exercise more in order
to contribute more electrical power supply.
The system works from approximately 7am to
7pm so that the time ranged is adequate for
the production of electrical power by the
outdoor fitness equipment.
Knowledge impact
Through the application of this project,
human energy can be used optimizely instead
of leaving it wasted. Thus, outdoor fitness

equipment at any areas of neighborhood can
work multifunctionally besides only used for
exercising. Indeed, this functionality are so
useful for people out there to generate
electrical power supply not in a common way.
Contribution to the society and country
OFEG-ELECTOR offers society to live
on a healthier and convenient route as
residents will have motivation and target to
use those equipment. In addition, residents
who stayed at rural areas will no longer suffer
occasional black out due to inadequate
electrical power supply. This major problems
can be deflected by the alternative way of
harvesting electrical energy. Not just
harvesting, this project is also suit for saving.
Indeed, rather than just exercising, people
themselves can use their energy to contribute
to generate electricity efficiently.
Cost impact
The making of this project might
requires much cost as the modification of the
additional components attached to it is
complicated. This however is requisite due
the additional functions of it. As for the
residents, the cost applies only when
installing it at their neighborhood area, which
can be effort by many individuals. However,
superior or authorities could plan an initiative
in making this product a money maker such
as organizing competitions in certain
neighborhood area of whose electricity
produced is higher in rate.
Commercialization potential
We perceive that this project could go
far and can have greater commercial potential
than ordinary outdoor fitness equipment as
the modified ones have special features like
power generator and accumulator which
helps in saving energy. In the future, we
believe that this installation can be applied to
other public places such as gymnasiums and
schools, leading to a better, green and
sustainable environment which can be well-
developed throughout the whole nation.
