A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 8

I. Objectives: At the end of lesson, the students are expected to;

a. Identify organelle that are involved in cell division
b. Present a role play about organelles involve in cell division
c. Recognize the importance of cooperation in performing task

II. Learning Task

A. Subject Matter: Organelles involved in cell Division
1. Science concepts:
a. Centrioles, nucleus, cell membrane, and cytoplasm are involve in cell division
b. Cell division is very important in the transmission of traits from the parents to
offspring
c. Traits are inherited by anybody from the parents
2. Skills:
a. Identifying the organelles involved in cell division.
b. Internalyzing the role of organelles involve in cell division
c. Recognizing the importance of cooperation in performing task
3. Value Integration: recognize the importance of cooperation in performing task

B. Materials
1. Activity sheets, chart of a cell, strip of papers, laptop

C. References:
1. K to 12 curriculum guide
2. Science 8 Learner’s module pages 321-322

III. Teaching Strategies: 5As, brainstorming, cooperative learning

A. Motivation and Recall (Awareness)
1. What are the organelles of the cell?
2. What are the four (4) major organelles involve in cell division?

B. Presentation ( Activity):
1. Pre – Activity:

Forming small cooperative learning

Distribution of activity sheet

a. Activity Proper:
Role play on the different organelles/ parts of the cell involved in cell division ( cell
membrane, nucleus, centrioles, cytoplasm)
b. Post- Activity: Discussing the location and functions of the four organelles in cell
division after the roleplay.
2. Discussion

Centriole
a.) Replicate and move to
opposite poles of the
nucleus during cell
division

Nucleus
a.) Located at the
center of the cell
b.) Contains
chromosomes

Cytoplasm
a.) Fluid material present
outside the nucleus and
within the cell membrane
b.) Contains various cell
Cell Membrane organelles
a.) Protects the cell from its
surroundings
b.) Regulates exchange of materials with
its surroundings

Brainstorming Question (Analysis)

1. Where is the nucleus located?
2. Where are centrioles located?
3. What happens to the centriole during cell division?
4. What are the components of a nucleus?
5. Why is cell membrane located at the outer layer of the cell?
6. How will you describe the cytoplasm?

3. Generalization (Abstraction): Cell membrane, cytoplasm, centrioles, and nucleus are parts of
the cell involved in cell division.

4. Valuing: Cooperative of everyone in the group is very important in performing the assigned task.

Guide Question: What will happen if one of these parts of the cell/organelles will not
help in dividing the cell?
IV. Evaluation (Application)
Direction: Identify what is being reffered to in each statement.
1. It separates the cell from the outer environment
2. The outer boundary of a cell
3. The control center of the cell
4. A spherical – shaped organelles which includes nucleolus
5. It regulates the exchange of substances
6. It is responsible for giving a cell its shape
7. It is separates into two poles of nucleus during cell division
8. It keeps the organelles in place
9. It contains the genetic material of a cell
10. It includes all of the materials inside the cell and outside of the nucleus

Expected answers
1. Cell membrane 6. cytoplasm
2. Cell membrane 7. centriole
3. Nucleus 8. Cytoplasm
4. Nucleus 9. nucleus
5. Cell membrane 10. Cytoplasm

V. Assignment
