Essay on Local Body Election 2015

Elections help the public in choosing a leader to represent and resolve their issues on the
governmental level. Elections on the Local Body Level help to transfer the power and choose
such leaders who understand the public issues on the grass-root level. The local Body Elections
were held under the supervision of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) 1st phase
in Punjab and Sindh is going to held on 31st October 2015. There are thousands of candidates of
different parties participates in the local government election. In Punjab, the main rivalry in
between PTI and PMLN and in Sindh PPP is going to be favorites. These elections are held in
order to disperse administrative and financial authority to local governments to ensure good
governance.

The local body elections are held after every four years on non-party basis by the Chief Election
Commissioner of Pakistan. Direct Elections are held on the basis of joint electorate that elects
members of Union Council including Union Administrator and Vice Union Administrator. Seats
are reserved for Women in Zila Council and it is the responsibility of the Election Commissioner
to organize and conduct them fairly.

Election Commission of Pakistan decides to conduct local body elections from Karachi and then
throughout the country. These elections are to be held in accordance with the 2001 Ordinance
local government ordinance that gave the code of conduct to district administration. There are
four stages of municipal government created: Town Committees, Municipal Committees,
Municipal Corporations and Metropolitan Corporations. Members of each of these councils
elect the senior members of the council. The elected house possesses the authority. Detailed

According to official and confirmed results above out from different parts of Karachi, the MQM
wins in Karachi with a massive margin.

Jamaat-e-Islami leader said he accepts the defeat. Vote count has completed after polling for
the 3rd and final phase of local government elections ended in 12 districts of Punjab and six in
Karachi. MQM managed a massive victory over its opponents securing 136 seats. MQM’s
opponents Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured 19 seats while independent candidates
managed to win 28 seats. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) also managed to get 12 seats
while Jamat-e-Islami won 11 seats. Pakistan Tehreek Insaf’s (PTI) performance was
unsatisfactory, managing to secure only 9 seats.
