Standard 3: Curricular Content Knowledge

Artifact 3.2: Blogging Template

Rationale Statement:

I have chosen to include a template that I created to help students become more
independent with completing their daily class blogs. I believe that allowing students to
complete a personal blog after each class period allows them to self-reflect on what they
learned and how they felt about the lesson. This blogging template gives students
sentences structures to follow to help guide their reflection. It also visually shows
students the steps that they must complete before they can complete their post, such as
choosing the class category that the post belongs in and publishing the post.
The blogging template is included within the curricular content knowledge
standard because it exemplifies my ability to create simple resources to build students’
independence that can be differentiated for each individual student. This artifact can also
be used as a tool of inquiry to help students self-reflect about particular topics.
This artifact illustrates my growing competence to create individualized resources
that help students become as independent as possible. The blogging template allows
students to perform the same task as their peers in a way that makes sense to them based
on their unique needs.
Self-reflection is an important part to any lesson, but it can be difficult for some
students to do without prompting or accommodations. This blogging template gives
students writing prompts, sentence structures to follow, and directions for how to publish
their post correctly. Templates are very useful resources to use with students with
disabilities because a template can be used to build students’ independence. Templates
can also be differentiated to fit the unique needs and various levels of students in the
classroom.
