1. Write the fraction each model shows.
(There would be a picture of fractions as
modeled in either a circle or in a
rectangle)
2. Write those fractions on a number line
from smallest to largest
ACQUIRE: Whole Group Introduction
In our math books, we will look at Lesson 18
Understand Comparing Fractions.

We will first look at two models of the same


size split into fourths. We see one model is
shaded ¼ and the next one is shaded 2/4. We
will give a thumbs up if they are the same
amount shaded and down if they are not. This
is will also help as a pre-assessment strategy.
We will look how those same fractions are
not on the same place on the number line. We
will first compare fractions that have the same
denominator and circle models that are
smaller or less than. We will then look at
fractions that have the same numerator and
see through the use of models how different
those fractions are.
