Th, 8/25 DUE: ES, Section One and ADIOS, Hieroglyphics: 36-mid 43. Bring questions re anything you don’t understand. You will be tested.

T, 8/31 DUE: ES, Sections Two and Three + ADIOS: Telescoping, Panning, Closure, Kinks 23-28. Test.

Th, 9/2 DUE: Read WA, Chapters 1 and 2. Study in context and master bottom p. 40- top p. 43: Writing Summaries as a Way of Reading to Believe. Then WRITE:

A combined summary showing understanding of chapters 1 and 2.

Answer Question 2, a-d, page 7: “For Class Discussion.” ME: LESSON: Do brainstorming issues to explore; DISCUSS COMMUNITIES. Study tip for Chapter 2:Practice the “Believing and Doubting Game” as suggested in text.

PREPARE

Your first formal paper, explained WA pp. 49-58, may develop into your research paper. As you see, this assignment requires a current exploration.

Don’t recount an old issue. You’ll find further explanation and a rubric in Course Docs, Paper One Exploratory/I-Search Paper. Investigate at least 4- 5 sources. The story of your search will result in a narrative of 1500-1800 words, excluding documentation.

T9/7 DUE: Draft of Paper One to share with small peer groups. Bring enough for your group AND me if you want me to look at your paper.

Th 9/9 Bring your questions if you have any re how to punctuate quotes MLA style.

T 9/14 DUE: PAPER ONE

Bring ADIOS and WA.

TH 9/16 DUE:

Read WA Chapter 3. Write: Writing Assignment p. 71. Use Carmen Thieu’s issue questions and working thesis statements as your MODEL. MODEL your issue’s questions and your working thesis statements on hers.

T 9/21 DUE:

Read WA Chapters 4. Read this and learn it; it’s the heart of a lot of what we’ll do from now on. I will test you straight from what the book teaches.

TH 9/23 DUE: Chapter 5. This is a central chapter to our work. I want you to concentrate on the STAR criteria and the information in pages 98 through the end of the chapter. Don’t miss the distinctions made concerning the use of statistics or the instructions about how to gather data. I will test your knowledge using the Checklist on pp. 101-102.

T 9/28 DUE: All readings + other sources for your chosen Paper Two topic. We will begin discussions for Paper Two.

TH 9/30 DUE: WA. Appendixes 1 and 2. ADIOS: 222-236 (SCRUB) and 237-243 (BASTE)

T 10/ 5 DUE: Test on readings for your topic; then we’ll begin small group discussions for Paper Two.
