Estudos Feministas. 1991, a União Soviética destacou-se em competições interna-
cionais de diversas modalidades esportivas. Uma das quais
em que o país obteve melhores resultados em Jogos
Olímpicos e campeonatos mundiais foi a patinação artística
no gelo. Embora também tivesse uma série de destaques nas
disputas individuais masculinas e femininas, a União Soviética
construiu sua preponderância nas competições de duplas e
na dança no gelo. A título de ilustração do desempenho das
duplas soviéticas apenas nos Jogos Olímpicos, vale destacar
que Oleg Protopopov e Ludmila Belousova foram medalhistas
de ouro na competição de duplas nos Jogos Olímpicos de
