Writing Process 1

There are many ways to write so when it comes to a person you shouldn’t really box

them. You can’t compare a middle schooler’s writing with a famous book author. Their levels of

writing are at two very different standpoint and they both have different types of expectations

that are placed on them. They might share the same type of style but that don’t necessarily mean

that they would produce the same result. There are many different writing styles and some are

similar but can be different in one aspect or another.

When I would write it could be a very slow process or a fast process, what I mean by that

is when I would take a long time to start writing because of my procrastination. At times I would

purposely find distractions (Neto, pg.780) so I wouldn’t have to worry about my writing at the

moment. I would always set a time when I am going to do it but then never get to that point or

push it off for later like I have time. When I am procrastinating I am also incubating (Neto, pg.

780) my thoughts so I don’t completely forget what I am about to do. I also don’t feel like I am

the type to write piece by piece because when I am motivated I would just keep going before I

would lose the flow of thoughts I do have. I would exhibit habits that fall in lines of , “..They

began writing without any secure sense of direction of where they were heading, acknowledging

that they would figure it out along the way” (Perl, pg.759). I see that in myself because most of

times I don’t know what I am writing but it are better to start writing with whatever little that I

may know and then later reconstruct that into something better. The writing process is always

confusing to me and it doesn’t always start off right off the bat, but once I get started it really just

go on from there. Writing under pressure or writing when there is a time limit is also motivation

for me. I do not understand the reason why but when I would write in that circumstance

everything will come out more easily for me. I would say I have writers’ block (Neto, pg.780)

because of my lack of motivation to write at times. I would really just stare at whatever I am

writing on and force words out but it don’t feel like it sounds right to me so I would just erase

them. I also don’t be trying to do outlines to map out what I am about to do unless that was

advised by the teacher and I would agree it made things simpler but it felt more natural when

was writing based off what I had. Information searching would always be a must for when I am

writing. I would just say algorithmic rules (Rose, pg. 789) are not necessarily for me. Also when

I write there must be some type of noise around me. The quietness is unsettling and noise just

keeps my brain active. I preferably like listening to music when I am writing also.

When I am writing I would take all the information I have and try fit most of what I have

into the piece. I know that I would not be able to put all the information I have so I try to narrow

down what I have that have the best information or give out the most information I could attain. I

always follow the normal flow of starting the introduction then moving to the body of

information and then ending it with the conclusion or at times I would switch it up and start with

the body then move to the into and finish with the conclusion. The intro is always pressured to

the important and sometimes it would come naturally to write it but there would be times where I

am stuck with coming up with a decent thesis statement so I would have to repeatedly write it

over and over or and rephrase it so it doesn’t seem like a mess. I really believe that the intro

should catch the attention of the reader. The introduction should give a little insight of what is to

come. At time I would like adding a story but I could only do that when it pops up naturally.

Also if that story is mentioned there should be a tie to it in the conclusion. Also when I am

writing I tend to be all over the places with my information so the flow of information isn’t really

direct or cohesive (Rogers, pg.826) from time to time. “They did not see the necessity of making

their referents explicit, of making the connections among their ides coherent” (Perl, pg.765).

That would be something that I would be entirely guilty of because some of my thoughts don’t

connect when I think that they do. The reason for that would be when I am writing I might just

be writing whatever may be coming to my head at the time and would worry about that later in

the revising. The way I would write really differs between the communities I would have to

address. When I am approaching a professional community and would have to send an email to

somebody I am focused on being cordial and making sure everything that I write is proper. When

I am texting my friends what I stated in the previous sentence may not appear at all, the reason

for that would be the cause of how I am comfortable I am with them so anything can be said.

When texting a lot of words can be abbreviated so it would be quicker to talk and it is easier to

take back a grammar error because all I would have to do would be just say the actual word I

meant and add a “*” at the end of it meaning I messed up. Sometimes the context would fix that

but that’s more helpful. When writing or drafting something that would get me is how long a

paper could be sometimes. There would be many times where I could fit the page count of my

work so I would desperately go back to change what I wrote or add some more information just

to get it up to par. The things that I see is helpful with my writing is that it leaves me stress free

and it helps me explore my mind with what I want to say or what I can conjure up. With my

mentality or my writing process it makes writing fun and doable, I basically can’t perceive

writing as a hassle or something I loathe to do. Different assignments that also comes improves

my writing process also, it helps me figure out if I could write differently or better compared to

what I have done before.

My revising (Somners, pg.782) and editing stage is always constant. Right now when I

was making this paper I was steadily going back and forth taking things out if I feel like I didn’t

necessarily need it in there. Also I would go back and change conjunctions to the separate words

in my paper so I could make more words or stretch the paper out a bit. When I am writing I tend

to use “I” a lot so I would always have to go back and change it to another way to refer to

someone else because people don’t want to hear about a first person point of view if the paper is

a research paper or an informative one. I wouldn’t worry about the grammatical issues (Rose,

pg.795) at first because if I do I would lose the train of thought and have to restart the whole

thing over. Also when I am writing I don’t really try to go out my way to seek confirmation

(Rogers, pg.828) from anyone when I am writing because most of the time I have nobody to go

to. At the times I would go to someone for help they were really helpful because they pointed out

what I actually needed to change either being the format, how I worded tings, or how I could

present it in front of a crowd.

With doing work how I do it I feel it is effective but to an extent because I really be

taking too long to start some of my work or papers. There are many things that come with

making a paper and free writing can be effective to make a paper but with me it’s all about

motivation and based how I am feeling. Even worse it can be the urgency of the paper that would

motivate me to write whatever I have to write. Sometimes grades would come back to me and be

well or alright for the amount of effort I put. Also grades would come back and be greater than

what I expected because of how little effort I had put. I would like to change some aspects of

how I work so I wouldn’t have to depend on the urgency factor of it to push me to complete my

work. Learning more about of how I could improve my writing would also help lessen the

difficulty I may face when writing in the future. I don’t feel like my work is close to being

perfect at all so there could be refinement that comes to my work to get it closer to that level.
