Estimating dew point and bubble point using Microsoft Excel

From previous chapter, we get

Comp feed ,F distilallate,D bottom,W

Xf Xf*F yD=xD xD*D xW XW*W
C 0.25 92.8255 0.98 90.969 0.012 1.8565
D 0.375 92.8238 0.02 4.6413 0.588 90.9673
A 0.375 61.8825 0 0 0.4 61.8825
total 1 247.5318 1 95.6103 1 154.7063

From journal, it says that distillation is not feasible at atmospheric pressure.

According to journal also, the system pressure must be under vacuum
to make the distillation feasible.
So, we take 20 KPa as our system pressure.

Component C was chosen as light key component and component D as heavy

key component because the boiling point of comp C is smaller than comp D
and will separate more in distillate and less in bottom.

From Antoines's Equation

log P*= A -B/T+C

For estimating the dew pint of top distillate.

To find the minimum number of stages, we use equation 11.7-12 from

Transport Processes and Separation Principles Book,

Nm = log [(X,LD*D/X,HD*D)(X,HW*W/X,LW*W)]/Log α, L, avg

log [(X,LD*D/X,HD*D)(X,HW*W/X,LW*W)] = 3.3809826

Nm = 12.019246 minimum number of stages

Using shortcut Method from Transport Processes and Separation Principles

Book to find the number of stages at operating Reflux ratio.

From journal, R= 2.18

R= 1.5 Rm
Rm= 1.4533333333

Using Embar and Maddox empirical correlation, we get

R/R+1 = 0.6855346

Rm/ Rm+1 = 0.5923913043

We plot using this value into Erbar- Maddox correlation figure,

We get Nm/ N = 0.59

So, N = Nm/ 0.59

N= 20.371603 theoretical stages

Therefore, the number of theoretical stages that we need to produce

75000Mton of Cyclohexanol is 21stages
at top dew point of 79.05 C
and bottom bubble point of 119.67 C
