TP Task 5 – Peer Observation

Program link: This task is associated to the guidelines of the course EPC 3903 – Practicum 3b

Objective: You will identify good teaching and learning strategies. You will note teaching strategies that your
peer used that you consider very useful and you would want to use. This strategy can deal with the use of
materials and technology, the review of prior learning, the motivation of the children, the presentation of the
materials, the appropriateness of the practice activities, classroom management strategies, timing strategies,
reviewing the lesson, general assessment of the learning. You should observe for 20 minutes.

Teaching characteristic Comments

1. Organization
Appropriate organization of content. Planning the
use of resources and materials. Teacher
preparation level.
She introduced the lesson clearly by explaining how you describe the
objects using video and PowerPoint. The lesson plan has a lot of details
and explaining what the purpose of each activity.
She prepared the holy hops to put the staff after they are sorting the
objects such as soft and rough, big and small. It is like two circles to
compare between the objects. After the students sort the objects the
student teacher checked what are the staffs inside the holy hops and
asked the students if it correct or not. She assessed the students
individually. She gave them small booklet has question that draw and
describe one object from each property.

2. Presentation
Clear introduction, continuity with other sessions
and students’ knowledge. Clarity of aims and
objectives. Clarity of presentation and
organization. Appropriate pace and timing.
Attempts to respond to student needs. Attitude to
students (manner, style). Summary and reference
to future work.
She introduced the lesson by explaining a video and asked the students
about how we explain the things around us. For example, the table is soft.
She used the data show to demonstrate the video.
She explained the words' meaning like smooth and let the students touch
soft things and pass it through them.
She used eyes on me, eyes on you strategy to manage the students'
behavior. And 1,2,3 eyes on you strategy, and hands on top that's mean
stop strategy.

3. Teaching approach and aids
Choice of teaching/learning approach and its
relevance to learner group. Methods used to
check/evaluate learning. Choice and use of
teaching activities. Effective use of question and
answer. Encouragement of student interaction.
She taught about smooth and rough things by using soft and rough things
like rough
Seeing the objects using water bottle and shoes
She explained that some objects you can see through it and some not.
She used creative activities which searching and finding objects and tell
what is soft, rough, small, big. She divided the students into groups and
give them specific such as you will look for soft and rough and another
group will look for small and big. The student teacher chooses in each
group a leader to remember other students what they have to find such as
small and big. She told the leaders what they have to do with their
classmate and being sure that all the objects they find is correct.

4. Student response
Level of participation. Level of attention and
interest. General class atmosphere.
The students participated in circle time and searching for objects.
The students were so focused with her and keep their attention on what
the student teacher instructions. The students were so excited to search
and find objects. They were so behaved well and keep their attention with
the student teacher.
5. General observations The lesson was very clear to the students and they really enjoyed and
learn something new. They sorted the objects and describing them such
as small, big. The students were so excited to search and sort the objects
and focused on what the student teacher want them to do.
